That’s good news. That’s one of the craziest sports injuries I’ve seen. Good lord that’s scary

It seems funny when you think about it that batters wear helmets as a from of protection against being hit in the hey by a maximum of 100 or so. But pitchers wear no protection standing in front of regular exit velos of 100

Bc batters wearing helmets was due to purposeful head hunting more than accidental hits.

I'm sure it's a statistical rarity but I've always been waiting for a line drive right back into a pitchers skull that does permanent damage or worse.

Brandon McCarthy got lucky to avoid it. Youtube Link He "underwent surgery for 2 hours to relieve cranial pressure after CT scans revealed he had suffered an epidural hemorrhage, a brain contusion, and a skull fracture."

Falling head first into the ground, dead weight, is probably responsible for a lot of the damage too.

I got line drives like that years ago when I pitched. Instantly lost complete control of my body and it was like I hit my funny bone all over. My body slowly crumbled to the ground. I never lost consciousness. Was very weird to see the video and all the involuntary movement my body made.

Isn’t something as small as this worth it if it saves just one life for the entire history of its use?

There’s no such thing as “saving a life”, everyone dies eventually. Not trying to watch people play baseball in a plastic bubble because you think it’ll possibly maybe extend one life in the next 100 years. GFY

I mean the argument against full helmets would be, what, “that’s not the way we’ve always done it”?

You clearly have never played sports a day in your life

Since you are unatheltic as frick and I cant talk sports with you, how about you go put a full face mask on and go about your daily life, and then you tell me if your peripheral vision and everything else isnt slightly dulled

If he didn’t finish with his glove behind his back he would have caught it

I’ve seen knockouts in Boxing that are worse than that.

I haven't. I'd like to see an example.
