Was there an explanation given to why they put that much time back on the clock?

I didn't get to watch the Butler 3pt shot but saw the final play. Lots of chatter on twitter this morning about how Jimmy hadn't even taken the shot at 3.0 left. Wasn't sure if the league had made a statement on it.

Apologies if this was discussed last night.

in basketball, 3 seconds takes a full 12 minutes to expire, you see it happen in almost every game
