re: WAC to add 3 teams tomorrow

MWC AD's will like having 5 home and 5 away every year--makes scheduling easier. In-state rival for TCU, everbody else is guaranteed one game in Texas (barely) every year. Win-win. Probably just waiting to see how the next round of expansion goes before the invite.

But will they really want the Ruston market?
doubtful. CUSA is a perfect fit for Tech but Tech probably isn't a fit for CUSA. Tech doesn't really have much to offer to them. Its not a big market like the majority of the current members are. None of the teams are or have very recently been consistent winners. Facilities are more or less nothing to write home about. So there would have to be some major lobbying from Tech and other current members in order for Tech to get in. I just don't see it happening.

Tech is a better rated school than the other CUSA feeder schools so I guess we will see how far that goes with the private schools that actually care about it.

Except that the MWC wasn't under sustained outside pressure 8 years ago.
There's been nothing from the league, but they were pretty mum before they pulled the trigger on the other two. The El Paso crowd is all in favor:

This jibes with what UTEP athletes and coaches have told me when they were here (at Air Force) for games.

In my opinion, if Tech moves it will be to go back to Sun Belt. The WAC is about to be awful without Boise so why La Tech spend that much on traveling when they could play a much more fiscally responsible schedule.

Chalk, I hate to beat a dead horse here, but the TSU/UTSA/Denver additions are not surprises because MWC itself had released information that they had talked to these three schools. I've heard nothing from the Mountain West about having talked to UTEP.
And it makes no sense. I would think UTEP would be far more attractive than TSU or UTSA. Are there some AD's who don't like each other or something?

Sun Belt>WAC now.
This. I'll say it. I'm not sure if a CUSA invite is ever going to come about so Tech needs to swallow their pride and look at the Belt as a viable option. It makes more sense than ever with the WAC crumbling like it is.

We're not far from Tech fans saying, "We're the glue holding the WAC together--it's time we demand a bigger slice of the pie. We're basically to the WAC what Texas is to the Big 12. Facilities! Going in the right direction! Chaw!"

Bye bye, Texas State! Don't let the door hit you on the way out!
Hope all of yall in the WAC enjoy having one of the most obnoxious fanbases I've ever encountered.

Oh, man. Do we have a FCS fan sour-grapin' over a FBS move? Come on, man!

Realistically, Hawaii and Tech could probably run the new WAC and compete for the WAC title year in year out for a few years. But thats like winning Wednesday afternoon bingo at the senior center. No one really cares that you won and if you brag about winning, you're gonna get laughed at.

I'd say that for the next few years, the WAC sked will look like this for Tech:
Hawaii -3.5
SJSU pick 'em
USU pick 'em
NMSU pick 'em
TSU +3.5
UTSA +3.5
Idaho +3.5

I believe Tech and Hawaii will be the top teams in the WAC easily... BUT, all this conference comparison crap means nothing if we don't win. Either conference is so damn weak that if we can't annihilate the competition in either one of them week in and week out, then we're not going anywhere. I'll just keep supporting the program either way and hopefully Tech can use the opportunity of being a member of the new version of the WAC or the Sun Belt as a platform for trying to move on to bigger and better things. Who the hell knows? We sure aren't winning this season, and I don't have any idea how we'll fare next year. No matter what happens, just win, baby, win! That'll solve all the problems!
Go Dawgs!! Annihilate the Aggies!!

So, tell me, Ktulu, and be honest.
What road trips do you want Tech to make over a two year span?
Option A: Honolulu, San José, Moscow, Logan, Las Cruces, San Marcos, San Antonio
Option B: Denton, Lafayette, Monroe, Jonesboro, Murfreesboro, Bowling Green, Troy, Mobile, Boca Raton, Miami

Actually, I go to San Antonio and San Marcos a lot already and adding those two is kinda convenient... Otherwise it's kind of a wash. There are more Sun Belt teams I can drive to though, for sure. Obviously, I'll give you that.
