There's about 100 guys in AAA I'd rather have than Vernon Wells, who is both worthless and expensive. At least a Quad-A guy would just be worthless. Hell, I'd rather entice Barry Bonds out of retirement than have Vernon Wells on my team.

Me too.....
This goes against the philosophy they've been preaching all winter.... I mean hell they could have kept Chavez, Martin, and Dickerson for what they are about to pay Wells and had a better team IMO

It really appears as a panic move for Yankees as they hope a new team could maybe spring Wells back to life. If he can hit .250-.260 with an OBP of .320-.330 and 20-25 pops then Yankees will feel it was worth it, however, I still don't like the move.

Yeah, exactly.

Clearly they needed an OF, but Wells, even having a bulk of his salary paid by the Angels is expensive for what he is at this point.

Seems like they could have found similar performance for cheaper.

I like getting rid of Well. This solidifies Bourjos as your CF and he can move forward with confidence that he is the guy. Of course if he sucks offensively, he could still be benched and Trout could move to CF and Trumbo to OF.

Yankees need a bat with everyone hurt or getting older by the day. But explain to me why they signed Chen Ming Wang?

Yankees need a bat, then why sign Wells? He hasn't hit since 2009, they would have been better off with a guy from Triple A making league minimum rather than owe 13 million over next two years to a guy worth 0.3 wins above replacement level.....

Wang is insurance because the Yankees have an old rotation and Hughes is already on DL and may miss his first start.

Wells was the worst signing in Angels history. Even worse than Mo Vaughn.

Hamilton contract really isn't that bad
Pujols could be really bad in later years

Wells is costing Yankees 13 million over 2 years

Those 3 players signed
Chavez 1 year 3 million
Martin 2 years 17 million
Dickerson league minimum (minor league contract with Orioles)

So you are looking at Yankees paying 6.5 million a year over 2 for Wells vs paying 3 players 11 million. 3 players that would actually improve the team as Chavez would be at 3B or 1B until Tex/Arod return, Martin is superior to Cervelli or Stewart, and Dickerson could provide the same numbers as Wells. Thus making for a better team than just the trade of Wells.

They wanna pull the "trying to reduce payroll" all winter and then come out and willing to pay a player such as Wells 13 million over 2 years? Makes 0 sense honestly when if payoll was important they have other players just as productive as Wells for cheaper and minor league players who could produce probably better with more upside than Wells.

This one. The Yankees let those players walk due to a self-imposed cap that they will have real difficulties getting under. And after letting those players walk, they then sign a far worse player for far more money. It makes no sense.

Your numbers are fine, but Chavez, Martin and Dickerson were long gone before the Yankee senior circuit started breaking down.

and the point is they preached all winter that preached a reduced payroll and then go out and throw away money on Wells. They could have have gone and found other options readily available as well.
