Utah announces that it is NOT firing defensive coordinator Morgan Scalley after an investigation into use of racist language but that his pay is being cut from $1.1 million to $525,000 and he is no longer the coach in waiting.

Utah released the findings of the report and...I am fairly surprised they are letting Morgan Scalley stay on staff

You can’t go middle ground on something like this

He either said something to get fired, or didn’t say anything worthy of being fired

Why would you cut his pay?

My guess is he’s gonna leave “on his own accord”. There was probably some legality they couldn’t get over to fire him but they still want him gone so this was their solution.

That's not what the biggest issue in the report is. The biggest thing is him admitting he texted a racial slur to a recruit.

There are other, less corroborated allegations of directing racial slurs at players, but he fully admitted to that one. He admitted to another racist joke at practice in 2018.

If anything, it seems like they kept him on because players largely liked him and thought he was a tough, fair guy instead of just firing him for the slur/joke.

Huh? The issue is that he admittedly texted a racial slur to a recruit and made a racist joke to Utah employees. It's in the part of my post you cut.

It's delusional to think he's not going to get disciplined for texting a racial slur to a recruit. I can't imagine a university just letting that one go when he admits he did it.

That said, it looks like he's generally well liked and most players went to bat for him not being racist as a person.

His admissions alone, it's hard to think Utah couldn't have fired him just for what he admitting to doing. It looks like Utah kept him on because he owned his bad action and the vast majority of players and people backed him in saying the slur was out of character.

Yeah, this is like saying we're demoting him for suspicion of ungentlemanly conduct.

Nevermind we didn't find anything.

Hopefully this will appease Twitter-verse, Facebook, Pravda, MSNBC and the dudes that went after Frankenstein.
