Usman vs Covington 2 title bout set, MSG eyed as host venue in November

A welterweight title rematch between champ Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington will headline the UFC’s November pay-per-view event with New York City’s Madison Square Garden as a candidate to host.
Multiple people with knowledge of the matchup confirmed to MMA Fighting that the fighters have agreed to the bout with contracts expected to be finalized. The promotion has targeted Nov. 6 as the date for the pay-per-view event, which is expected to be UFC 268, per sources. The matchup and PPV plans were first reported by ESPN.com citing UFC President Dana White.
UFC President Dana White named Covington the No. 1 contender to the welterweight title earlier this year. The former interim champ lost to Usman via fifth-round TKO at UFC 245 after a heated buildup. Covington claimed he was the victim of bad refereeing and demanded a rematch.
Usman, the No. 1 ranked welterweight in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings and No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter, is three months removed from a victory in another rematch, a UFC 261 headliner in April that ended in his most emphatic performance to date with a knockout of Jorge Masvidal. It was his fourth defense of the welterweight title.
Covington most recently appeared in the octagon this past September at UFC Vegas 11, where he stopped ex-champ Tyron Woodley in another grudge match. The performance put him back in the win column after his loss to Usman snapped a seven-fight UFC winning streak.
In a recent interview with MMA Fighting, Covington accused Usman of ducking the rematch.
“As soon as his balls stop shrinking and he comes back to earth, he can fight me again,” Covington said. “But the thing is, he’s off the grid. He’s probably got his phone on airplane mode, he’s denying all the UFC’s calls. He doesn’t want to sign the contract. He’s just hoping some alien invasion happens where he can pick some other lightweight washout to fight.”
Madison Square Garden has hosted four major UFC pay-per-view events, most recently UFC 244 in November 2019. The famed New York City arena has been off-limits due to COVID-19 capacity restrictions; in May, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said venues can run at 100 capacity for fully vaccinated people, or in limited capacity with 50 percent vaccinated and 50 percent unvaccinated.
MSG.... 'But Why?' gif

Why on earth would it be there when you know they wont allow fans into the building?

It's beyond stupid. I don't know why in the hell this fight wouldn't be in Vegas.

they'll move it if they don't allow a full arena

I love Colby and think he's the best fighter Usman will face, but, under Whittan's tuteledge and that Nigerian juice plan, Marty Fake Newsman looks unbeatable.

Madison Square Garden, you say. I may have to go to this.

I like Usman and think he's critically underrated somehow but I want Colby to beat his arse this time around. Dana is hoping for this too.

The last fight was awesome. I just want to see what happens if one of them tries to take the other down.

It would make things more interesting for the division but I think you'll both be disappointed.
Usman has gotten better since that fight, all Colby has done is beat a washed up Woodley.
Either way they're just keeping the belt warm for Khamzat.

Isn't that because he had issues with former teammates? Gee I wonder whose fault that was. Just googled him and I see he is talking all kind of bullshite.

“He’s a fake nice guy on camera,” Covington continued. “He’s a piece of sh*t off camera. I’ve seen this guy. I know how he is. I’ve seen how he treats other people. He’s a piece of sh*t. he’s a dirtbag.
Bringing his wife and kid into it and calling them "Louisiana swamp trash". Sure, that's not insulting to a whole state or anything.
I think it's obvious that Covington is the one putting on an act for the cameras.

There are two types of combat sports trash talkers, both exemplified by Conor.
There is old-school Conor that got into people's heads and fricked them up and he basically had the fight won before they entered the octagon.
Then there is new school Conor that just focuses people on fricking him up just adding bulletin board material to push them to posterize him.
Colby is and has always been new school Conor.

I see what you're saying but this isn't true. He used to be a quiet guy that kept his head down and let his skills do the talking. He suddenly became an insufferable loud mouth to bring attention to himself. It's worked somewhat but not as much as he hoped. Doesn't have near the following on social media as guys like Poirier, Masvidal or Usman.

Colby spent alot of time around Dustin, who am I to doubt Colby? What he says about him seems believable I see no problem.

The guy who thinks Jolie direct messaged Conor for sex and admitted to wearing Irish colors and chanting "ole ole ole" at the tv sees no problem with what Colby said about Dustin's wife and kid.

Lol relax. That's all for show.
