If USC and Da U combined they'd have half a fanbase and still have a shitty team.

I was at the game. Took a video of the final interception. Chargers had to go to a silent count.
Rained the entire weekend.

Everyone that has 60" flat screen and every game on TV doesn't help either. I used to love going to LSU games but it's just to much of a hassle.

10 minutes before kickoff last year vs Mizzou.
Also look up pics from Florida vs Colorado State, Furman and Miami. Tons of pics of empty seats. FSU Had half filled stadiums with a very traditionally power program. Teams struggle and crowds decrease regardless of where it is located.
Still in the south

Quit comparing games like Furman and CSU to Oregon
Miami and USC are good comps both have mostly fair weather fan bases.

Miami is definitely on the low end of major programs.
Almost every cfb fan base is fair weather. When LSU went down in the 90s the upper deck rarely had people in it. Even now after the Tigers lose a few you see a ton of empty seats (mainly in the yellow sideline and upper deck).
When Michigan was struggling there were tons of empty seats in the big house.
FSU has seen struggling attendance.
All great programs that have seen struggles.
It’s an issue with college football that will get worse as tickets increase and schools grow more corporate.
Not just cfb but NFL ax well. as said above, very easy to just stay home and watch in comfort.

Usc program is in an interesting place right now. Almost everyone wanted Helton fired last year, and was pissed when swann didnt.
At this point, many fans are rooting for usc to lose games because it gets us one step closer to heltons departure and hopefully urban Meyer.

all pick up bandwagon fans when they are winning plus you notice it more / people are more vocally supportive and yes attendance is better. In fairness to Miami and USC, Both are smaller private schools in major cities and they have smaller fan bases to begin with. But the point isn't that LSU or other big schools, never have empty seats just their bad crowds are typically still much larger than schools like USC and Miami. See this article about Miami, even in their dynasty years their attendance was below what a decent but by no means great LSU program avg in the 80's
quote:
However, even during those salad days, the Hurricanes never averaged full capacity. The highest average attended year during that time was 69,539 — well below the 75,000 seat capacity of the Orange Bowl

well that's a gross exaggeration. In the 90's Tiger Stadium held just under 80,000 and there was just the West upper deck. it certainly wasn't jam packed during the Hallman era, but actual attendance was still in the 60,000s most games (please note that does not mean 60,000 where in their seats for the entire game, yes stadiums do clear out)

So, as I was saying last year... big schools would be better with six big home games than seven games with a lotta cupcakes.

And everything you said makes sense.
It's fricking Miami.
It's not Lincoln, NE or Tuscaloosa, AL...where gameday is like "hey, we're all here, from all over the State! Give us our only entertainment for the week...thank you."
Well you say, the students should fill up the stadium. The U's enrollment size is around 20,000 - University of Florida is double that.
And the U's enrollment wass around 10,000 in the 80's (known as a local commuter school) and they're going to fill a stadium? The University had to invest $450 million in expanded dorms after their success in the 80's.
71% of Miami residents say Spanish is their primary language.
The newly arrived and 1st generation Cubans and Hispanics are by and large not going to CFB games to a school they never attended.
Same with USC. It's a very exclusive school now. It's not like it's L.A.'s team. There's UCLA and the rest of the transplants that make up a majority of L.A. sit at home and watch their Aggies like WestCoast Ag.
If you grew up an LSU fan in Louisiana, do you move to Seattle and suddenly become a Husky fan?
CFB fandom is not a big city sport...for teams in that city because everyone already has their teams.
CFB crazy fandom is for backwater places, that are small, tend to not have Pro teams, and it's clannish.
USC has to be awesome to compete with the fricking Lakers, Dodgers and even whatever stupid Pro team is in town.
Alabama only has to compete with Auburn. There's no Professional sports teams. So the residents make them the Professional sports team and the administration and boosters do oblige.
