That’s how the first base coach for the Rockies AA team died.

But I believe he was hit in the neck

They will probably start wearing the hard helmets like the base coaches now.

And now because of this one instance, umpires will be wearing helmets like the base coaches do.

They should be. Many of them are old and fat hasbeens dodging 100+ mph batted balls

Did it hurt the ball?

To be fair what is the logic behind a base coach having to wear a helmet when literally 15 feet away from the 1B/3B umpires don’t?

Mike Coolbaugh. Minor league base coach got hit with a line drive in like 07 or 08 and died from it

His dad was an umpire, too.
How old is he?

Soto didn’t do it, he was 0-5 with 3 strikeouts and grounded into an inning ending DP with the bases loaded.

C'mon man, have a little respect.

Another inch higher and we might be speaking of him in the past tense

It was a foul ball dumbass. I truly believe you miss Soto so much for leaving that in a strange way this is your way of showing how much you really love him.

Seemed like whenever the NBC game of the week was on, there was Harry Wendelstadt.

Looked like he took it near the side of the face. Batting helmet or not, the guy's reaction to the line drive was slower than slow. Shouldn't these guys be fit and cognitive enough to react? The guy literally couldn't move.
