Exactly, it’s all about enrollment numbers.

5A is splitting into predetermined D1 and D2 districts starting next year.

The ADs are involved in the selection of where to play as well, so it's not just the coaches deciding. I think the rule is neutral site unless both teams agree to flip for a home game.

But it's not just two teams usually. For example, my school, Rockwall, played The Woodlands last week at TW. The team we play Saturday, Sachse and the team they beat were all part of figuring out where round 2 would be played. Had the Woodlands won, the round 2 game was going to be at Baylors stadium. Since Rockwall won, the game is being played at Allen.

Now the four teams playing this week (Rockwall, Sachse, Klein and Pflugervilke Hendrickson) will all have a call to determine sites for the next round. You have to figure it out early to get good locations reserved.

They have only predetermined this for 4A and lower. That’s why there’s only 16 districts divided up.

Ahhhhh okay. I've never been a part of 5A or higher so I didn't know that

Though everything was how 4A and down works haha. My bad, OP.

I really believe y'all are missing out by not having more playoff games on campuses...

Texas is a big state. When you have a Valley school play someone from San Antonio, that’s a 5 hour trek on bus. When you factor in a few rounds of playoffs, that’s tons of money for band, cheerleaders, drill team...in addition to the team of course.

Neutral site is VERY sensible, and it doesn’t create small crowds. I’ve seen some third round games with over 13,000 people in which both schools are over 2 hours away.

I loved the neutral site games. Got to play atThe old Cowboys Stadium and Kyle Field. Also played at floyd Casey like five different times.

Not two hours away, but I went to a Waco area school and we played another Waco area school at Floyd Casey in the Regional Final and there was an estimated 28K in attendance. It was insane lol.

I’ve also been to a Southlake and Abilene game at Floyd Casey where there was at least 30K in attendance. Granted, it was back when Southlake was badass. Like i’m pretty sure Taylor Potts was the Abilene QB.

Yea, if you aren't from Texas it might seem odd to not have home teams in the payoffs, but the kids love getting to play in different stadiums. And the fans travel well.

A few years ago when Rockwall made a run, we played at home, AT&T, Baylors stadium and Kyle Field.

I agree about neutral site games. I think it is better for coaches, players, fans, residents of the area the games are being played. I think you get a larger crowd with neutral site games than you would for a home game for one of the teams. And the Texas high school fans travel really well for the majority of the schools.

I take it both coaches have to agree to flip for home games? what if one coach wants to flip and the other wants a neutral site game?

Coaches have to agree for neutral site. If they cannot then it's a flip, winner can either pick neutral site or home.

Yeah, it gets ugly when you see a team like Allen, Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Katy, etc face some inner city school from Dallas or Houston.

There was one year where the district consisted of a bunch of scrub Fort Worth ISD schools--and state powerhouse Aledo (west of FW). Aledo won one game 91-0 (running clock, played 3rd and 4th string) and some parent from the FW school filed a bullying complaint on the coach.

Must be nice to have those games in your backyard. I’ll go check out a battle of a couple of teams that will get blasted in the next round.

Maybe, but the campus venues make games better than they'd be at neutral sites... Haynesville plays Kentwood tonight and that game is 100x better under the tank or in Haynesville than it would be at a random neutral site in CenLa
