On the other card im terrified for Volk. Hes one of my favorite fighters of all time. I bought his last fight against Lopes fully expecting him to get knocked out and was on my feet the entire time nervous as hell, but he shocked the hell out of me and pulled it off. It’s going to be tough to do it twice but I’ll be rooting for him again.
It could possibly be his last fight. It's in Australia, he might not get the stars to align on that again before he's done.

Feel like they should have given him somebody other than Lopes again. Doesn't do much to add to his legacy, he just beat Lopes, that was his most recent fight.

A lot of the same people crying about these matchups are the same people crying when someone holds someone down for 5 rounds with no damage.

UFC needs a good fight card. Do you think they like when the fans are booing the last match or two of the card and leaving early? gaethje and lopes have continuously put on great fights for the company. Movsaer or whatever is one of the most boring fighters in the division and also pulls out a lot. Murphy was a decision merchant that just got his first finish. Arman literally just pulled out of a championship fight on 1-2 days notice then what does he do in the last fight? He fricking headbutts the opponent during faceoff.

I like that the ufc rewards the guys that actually fight and step up when the company needs it and you can def say that both gaethje and lopes do that.

Paddy is a little different but he has the chance to become a huge star if this scenario works out assuming he would beat gaethje and Topuria to become undisputed champ.

That's true. I agree with that. About Arman, his victory against Charles wasn't the most decisive. Then canceling vs. Islam. And Dan Hooker's great, but is it really that impressive to beat him at this age and stage of his career? So it might be recency bias with Arman. But he did beat Hooker dominantly.

But yeah, for sure, UFC wants an action-packed card for the Paramount debut.

If Lopes starts with the energy he ended the last fight vs. Volk with, he could beat him.

Yeah, I guess that's just the way it worked out, not too many other guys to pick from for Volk. Lopes is probably the most likely to make it exciting.

The Gaethje-Pimblett matchup seemed expertly orchestrated by the UFC, which couldn't afford either of these two big stars to suffer a loss in their next fight. Gaethje needed a path to a final title shot before retirement and Pimblett, one of the promotion's hottest stars, needed a title shot to bring in the viewers. I wouldnt be surprised if Dana encouraged Ilia to take a little break and to be ready for a catchweight superfight against Islam on the White House lawn this summer.

Let’s look at this again.

Ilia doesn’t want to fight Arman. He even said he rather give Arman the belt than fight him.

Ilia has been active online after 322.

UFC announces Paddy vs Justin and they sprinkle in an interim belt. Ilia all of a sudden announces he needs a break for personal issues.

Ilia said he “doesn’t want to hold up the division”. But when a fighter say something like that, he voluntarily relinquishes the belt(just like Jiri did). But ilia is still holding on to the belt? That’s what holding up the division means. That you have the undisputed belt but refuses to fight( just like Jon jones).

Seems like ufc and ilia circumvented Armen as #1 contender.

1st card of a major TV deal and you put an interim belt on the main event? This is all lipstick on a pig.

No one is complaining about the fight. Had it been a non interim tithe fight, no one would complain. They’re just pointing out how the ufc went about doing this. Seems like they are making shite up as they go.

In all seriousness, though, I don't see Topuria passing up a fight vs. Gaethje or Paddy. Much more winnable fights than facing Islam. Also don't think he would want to fight Islam coming off of inactivity. Topuria's brother also said he thinks Topuria needs to defend the lightweight belt once before anything else. Feel like he wouldn't have said that if he hadn't discussed it with Ilia.

Topuria vs. Gaethje or Paddy is a huge fight at the White House, too.

I could see UFC making it Islam vs. Ian Garry at the White House, try to pitch it the way Garry did, McGregor's protege vs. Khabib's protege. Maybe even have Garry train with McGregor or something as if Conor's giving him inside tips, have Conor corner him, Khabib in the other corner.

It could be:

Pereira vs. Jones
Islam vs. Garry or Usman
Topuria vs. Gaethje or Paddy

Then if Islam and Topuria both win, they could headline MSG in November or something.

When is Shavkat supposed to be good to go? I’d much rather see him fight Islam than IMG. I think an IMG fight would go just like the JDM fight went.

I'd also rather see Shavkat vs. Islam. Shavkat says February or March for returning. He said it was a meniscus and partially torn ACL.

I think Islam just said that Shavkat shouldn't get a title shot after sitting out for a year.
