Doesn't stop the fight for the eye rakes, then stops the fight in motion as the guy goes for a defensive takedown.

The replay booth must have also missed the pokes / rakes, they told the ref it was a legal punch that hurt his eye.

nah, he stopped it because Almabavev was running away and not defending himself. Probably because he couldn't see. Beltran was stepping in to stop it when Almabavev grabbed the leg out of desperation.

Still, the eye pokes have now ruined 2 main events in a row.

It's becoming a real issue. Either a change in gloves is going to have to be made, or Dana's going to have to petition the commissions to aggressively enforce warnings and point deductions.

They tried changing the gloves and then knockouts went down and the fighters complained. They just announced the old gloves are permanent. But I agree, I feel like eye pokes should be an automatic point deduction. Getting kicked in the nuts sucks but more often than not it’s not gonna be with you the whole fight. Eye pokes are serious and can really frick you up for the whole fight.

Demetrius Johnson and some others out there said the Pride gloves stopped eye pokes. Pride is gone. Seems like the UFC could have them made, re-branded, and adopt them.

I was listening to the Fight Disciples podcast a week ago and they were discussing the Cejudo fight. They made an interesting point that closed-finger gloves are already used in amateur MMA. With the absence of gis and the prohibition of grabbing clothing in professional MMA today, the fingers aren't really needed for gripping anymore. The guy at 5:18 in the video shows what a pair of amateur gloves look like versus the open-finger style.
