Overeem would quit and wilt and not try to keep going like JDS did tonight.
this. Overeem is soft and will quit, just like his brother. No doubt he's a great striker, but he doesn't have any heart imo
If Cain tried that sloppy pressure crap Ubereem would catch him a few knees and it would be over in the first round.
Ubereem is a different level of striker, he has better footwork, better timing, and is more accurate than JDS could ever dream of being.

Whatever. He won't need heart to catch a dude rushing in head first like Cain did tonight. Ubereem is just a different level of fighter.
The only worry, is he will have not fought in over a year and I doubt Dana is going to give him a warm up fight.

Was Cain not rushing in sloppily attempting takedowns for almost the entire first round? It worked against JDS, but Junior doesn't have the footwork, timing, speed or accuracy that a K1 champion like Ubereem has?

Yeah its not but guess what? The fight starts on the feet and if Cain comes with the same gameplan he did against JDS he is getting KO'd.

Cain =/= Todd Duffee, Brett Rogers, Fujita, James Thompson, or any of the other cans that Alistair has been beating up at hw.

You're right, JDS is better.

oh my god Junior doesn't even look human in that picture. Boetsch is messed up but Juniors swelling is ridiculous.

He looks almost exactly like Nog after his fight with Cain...

He was 100% prepared. I don't get why you guys don't seem to realize everyone and especially JDS knew Cain's strategy would be exactly what we saw.
Did you see the look on JDS's face at the end of the first round? He looked confused and scared, as in, "I can't believe this is happening, what am I going to do?" look?

Hell, months ago JDS said he was focusing on takedown defense in his training camp because he expected it.
Fighters say all kind of shite before a fight. It doesn't mean it's gospel, it's just bs alot of times.
JDS looked and acted like a guy who was planning and expecting Cain to cower once he started punching. Kinda remined me of Lesnar until Lesnar got hit. Only JDS has more skill and balls to hang in to take his beatdown.

Cain was telegraphing his take downs like crazy. However, he could because JDS wasn't doing anything to make him mix it up. Cain did what he wanted, when he wanted. Alistair has always checked out of fights when he starts being overwhelmed. There's no way he would be able to endure the constant pressure from Cain for 25 min. Carrying around 275 lb of horse meat will take its toll by rd 3.
JDS did manage to get Cain in the Muay Thai plum several times but did nothing with it. Cain definitely leaves himself open for the Ubeer knee. Although AO throwing knees could just result to him being thrown on his head.

Additionally, he hit double digits with his takedowns, scoring 11 of 33 attempted in the fight.

Cain had a long time to think about that loss in the first fight and it showed. he came with something to prove

Dude you are fricking clueless and must know NOTHING about MMA.
I followed JDS and Cain's training camps. I promise you 110% JDS expected EXACTLY what he got. And he trained for exactly what he got. And Cain's style and gameplan were the EXACT gameplan he used in all his big fights (Nog, Brock, Silva), with the lone exception being the first JDS fight when he had a bum knee he did not trust.
There was nothing surprising about that fight. The question was whether JDS would connect when Cain pressed and went for takedowns. He didn't. The next time they meet will be the same formula. Cain will press, JDS will not back up as much and will be more agressive and active with his hands trying to catch Cain early. My best guess is he will not catch Cain and Cain will have success again in another grueling and long fight.
JDS has to work on his cardio. He got tired against Nelson and Nelson wasn't even hurting him. He gassed just standing and punching Nelson. JDS has to have enough cardio to last a round or two to try to knock Cain out. Because if he doesn't, Cain will outpoint him with EASE every single time.
Guy with the best chance of beating Cain is Cormier. But they won't ever fight each other. Second best chance is Josh Barnett and his catch wrestling. Cain is going to beat the winner of Reem-Silva, then he will probably win a likely rematch with JDS. And since he won't fight Cormier, the UFC needs to get Barnett and he needs to stay off the juice.
Anyway, I expect Cain will sit atop the HW division for the next 12-18 months.
