And let's not kid ourselves, Brock wasn't the same fighter after diverticulitis nearly killed him.

I disagree. I think Cain beats Brock regardless. Hell I bet on Cain to beat Brock when they fought.

Ummm. . . no. Cain's strategy from tonight would work just as well against Overeem, and Overeem isn't the fighter JDS is.

Cain >

Overeem would quit and wilt and not try to keep going like JDS did tonight. I can't wait to see JDS and Cain fight again. That pace was the craziest I've ever seen for a heavyweight fight.

Overeem will forget where he is fighting and soccer kick him to death

JDS really got hurt early. He showed a lot to tough it out 5 rounds IMO.

Wrestler > striker most of the time. With Cain's gas tank, he is just tough to beat. He may rule the HW division for a bit now. I see the exact same thing happening in a Cain v JDS 3. I think the first fight was the exception.
agree with all of this

Jon Jones might be rethinking about joining the heavies seeing what Cain did tonight.

I agree though I expect a similar result. Haven't seen that type of sustained pace in the HW division in many years. Since some of the Pride Grand Prix's and those were with smaller men on average (less than 240).

this. Overeem is soft and will quit, just like his brother. No doubt he's a great striker, but he doesn't have any heart imo

Bones is not ready for Cain. He would have a LOT better shot vs JDS or Overeem.

Jones is so incredibly talented though, he may be in a few years...

I think that if JDS came out with a bit more fire initially and managed to avoid that early overhand right it's a totally different fight, obvious is obvious I know

So that 3rd fight, who knows...

JDS displayed incredible fight to stick it out and hang in there till the end. Cain most certainly tired out a great deal by the mid 3rd. JDS' take down defense was pretty good all things considered, he didn't keep his hands up and got caught with some very powerful punches. That and JDS didn't really counter or initiate attacks of his own in the stand up. No real knees or leg kicks. Granted he was busted up and extremely tired, so I can understand not risking the stand up leg strikes and getting taken down, but he had a clinch often enough and didn't throw knees.

The only difference in Cain-JDS 2 and Cain-Overeem is that Alistair seems to check out of fights when he starts being over whelmed. I'm a huge AO fan, but there is no part of me that believes he could've made it all five rounds. That said, JDS had a ton of opportunities for knees and never threw any. He had the Muay Thai plum at least 6 times.

Agree.

JDS was basically just in survival mode after the first round. I remember Rogan or the other guy saying JDS was starting to put something together, and I was like, no he's not, Cain is just slowing down (mid round 3).

I like JDS and would have rather him won. But he just got too much pounded out of him in that 1st round and basically survived and never really threatened afterwards.

Dominant performance by Cain.

He might be but Cain takes you out of your comfort zone and doesn't let you fight like you want to. I think to beat Cain you have to hit him with a strong shot early to back him off from constantly punching and taking you down with his extreme pace.

Yep. Cain just comes at and overwhelms whoever he fights. Against Brock and Silva both it was the same exact thing and a complete arse kicking. Same against JDS, but JDS is a better fighter with better cardio than Brock or Bigfoot, so he survived all 5 rounds. Not something you see often with heavyweights against a fighter that can push a pace like Cain.

Have to admit I enjoyed that card.

I don't think I have ever seen as many takedown attempts in a HW fight either. May be some sort of UFC record in a HW fight. I don't think JDS's takedown defense was bad either. Cain was just relentless.

Watching post fight presser.

Cain broke JDS's jaw.

JDS is going to be out for a while now.

How did his right eye look? The amount of fluid over that thing was damn near the size of a balloon.

Dana said JDS looks pretty bad right now.

He hasn't come out for the presser yet.

Cain is at the presser now.

I am thinking JDS may be on the way to the hospital to get his jaw set and wired shut.

Happened in 2nd round.

ETA: Dana corrects and said JDS's jaw "may" be broken. He isn't sure.
