Overeem would destroy Cain's strategy from tonight though. Cain could have and should have finished JDS in the first, he could have ended it at any point thereafter as well but instead he kept focusing on the shoot and trying to take down JDS.

It's a fight I definitely want to see. Cain's aggression tonight early on was shocking. His tempo and dominance of the octagon was unreal. Just Overeem's ability to strike with his kicks at any point is something Cain would obviously have to change his strategy for.

I think we should get Cormier v JDS and Cain v Overeem. Then JDS beats Overeem to get his belt back.

No he wouldn't. Perfect strategy to beat Overeem as well.

Everyone knew that was Cain's strategy coming in. Press forward, stay in tight, takedowns as much as possible.

Hell JDS knew it too. Cain did EXACTLY as he was expected to do.

I even posted it early in this thread: Press, stay tight, takedowns.

So what would be the chances of Overeem defeating Cain and then the very next fight be him vs. JDS?

Dos Santos needs to work on his cardio and stuffing takedowns. Looked like he tired out almost immediately in the 1st round. Cain had a good strategy. Dos Santos wasn't prepared for that shite. Terrible fight nonetheless.

Poor. Cain > Overeem.

I would not be surprised to see Cain vs JDS 3.

Ummm. . . no. Cain's strategy from tonight would work just as well against Overeem, and Overeem isn't the fighter JDS is.

Not to mention Overeems knees in the clinch.

"Technically" they can make JDS vs Overeem #1 contender fight. But they'll probably make Cain vs JDS 3

And let's not kid ourselves, Brock wasn't the same fighter after diverticulitis nearly killed him.

My fault in wording that. I meant to illustrate how shocking it was seeing JDS against the aggression, he handled it so poorly.

No doubt, out wrestling the stand up leg striker. Just how many times did JDS even let his legs go in this fight? I didn't see many at all, well then again we didn't see much period from JDS tonight.

He was 100% prepared. I don't get why you guys don't seem to realize everyone and especially JDS knew Cain's strategy would be exactly what we saw. Hell, months ago JDS said he was focusing on takedown defense in his training camp because he expected it.

JDS had one in this match that connected well, I initially thought it was going to do some good damage on Cain, but alas it did not.

JDS had that open quite a bit tonight, he just didn't throw his knees much in the clinch, or legs in the stand up.

True enough. I honestly want to see how the Reem fares against a legit HW champion.

JDS really got hurt early. He showed a lot to tough it out 5 rounds IMO.

Wrestler > striker most of the time. With Cain's gas tank, he is just tough to beat. He may rule the HW division for a bit now. I see the exact same thing happening in a Cain v JDS 3. I think the first fight was the exception.

JDS was flat. Cain will probably do the same thing against Overeem and it will probably look very similar. Ugh
