Great stretch of mma coming up to wrap-up the 2011 year (including 4 straight weekends of UFC fights starting this weekend). Too bad GSP got hurt, as all the buzz for this card has been sucked away. Hopefully BJ puts on a great performance and licks some blood off his gloves after the fight.

I think it's hilarious Vera is on the facebook prelim card. Cocky bastard must be humbled.

Dude hasn't had a win in over 2 years (since August 2009)....hopefully the Egyptian has been humbled.
I'm looking forward to seeing Jeff Curran back in the UFC. He has a slick ground game and great JJ.
The two HW fights should be great...wonder if this will be Cro Crop's last. Can't believe Cerrone is on the pre-lims....guess they're using him to sell last minute PPVs since all his fights are entertaining.

Very exciting card. Although it lost a lot of star power, with GSP getting hurt, it's still a great card. Curran is a solid fighter, a lot of great match ups for him. I don't expect him to challenge for a title, but he's still a great signing. I expect the reason Cerrone-Siver is on the prelims, because it gets some notariaty to the winner ( who isn't far away from a shot at the title) and also boosts ratings for Spike.
Diaz and Penn is an awesome match up of very similar fighters. I personally see Diaz winning a UD 29-28.

Considering he was cut; and only brought back due to his fight with Thiago Silva being turned into a no contest; he should be grateful he's getting a check and a winnable fight.
At one point, this was the greatest UFC card probably ever, but things happened, still an amazing card worth seeing.
My lock of the card: Meathead will knock out Kongo.
And Roy Nelson's beard may finally retire Cro Cop.

I think Meat heads striking is too sloppy to stand with Kongo. This is the first real threat Matt has fought, this fight will give us a better idea of where he's at in his career.

I don't gamble, but I could see taking a feeler out on Roop against Hioki (Bodog has him +325); I never trust Japanese fighters in the US; and Roop is a huge 145er that looked awesome against Grispi & double-tapped the Korean Zombie's head.

Hioki Is legit, he has wins over Mark Hominick 2x, Ronnie Mann, Curran, and Sandro. All of who have had success in the states.

He also lost to Omigawa who has looked beyond mediocore since coming to UFC.. needless to say, Japanese MMA is an entirely different world and the track record of fighters from that country fighting in the UFC is beyond horrible.
edit: I used beyond way too much there.

Cro Cop is one of my favorite fighters ever and seeing him fall off this bad ever since he joined the UFC is very depressing. I want to watch him fight Roy but really don't want to see him knocked out again. With the other fights Mitrione and Kongo should be really fun to watch I think Kongo will beat Mitrione. Don't know if it carries the weight of being a "co main event" but should be very enjoyable. I don't think either has the capability of becoming champ. No idea what to think on Diaz and Penn.

Anyone placing bets on this card? What time are the weigh-ins?

I will pray to 8 lbs 5 oz baby Jesus that Penn KOs Nick Diaz and Nate falls on his way out of the arena and hurts himself.

Did you watch that fight?? It was a complete robbery. Omigawa was the Cinderella story of the tourney. So it was
In DREAMs best interest for him to win. Although, karma caught up with Omigawa against Elkins. Omigawa clearly won, but got fricked by the judges pretty bad.

i saw a pic of roy nelson next to forrest. Looks like Roy is like 225lbs.
and i wish the UFC would stop trying to make all their mid level heavyweights' names off of KOing a zombie Cro Cop.

It wouldn't have been, had GSP not gotten hurt 2 weeks before the fight.

Crop has two big problems IMO
1. He can't take a big shot anymore
2. He has become so one dimensional, it's pathetic
His inability to do nothing more than stalk and throw an occasional kick, has killed him. He never opens up with his punching anymore. When he gets in close, he just pushes his opponent away. Wash, rinse, and repeat

Nelson commented on that photo and said that he just weighed in at 263.

very true and since he is scared of getting knocked out he can't open up anymore. He's just trying to strike to a decision now.

Yea, by only throwing 3-4 kicks a round. He really is a shell of his former self.
