So going back to what I originally posted. When some organization besides UCF names them a National Champion, UCF can claim a National Championship.

As I said as soon as someone calls them National Champion, they can claim it but you are so dug in to not realize it.

Are you not reading? As soon as someone declares them National Champion they can claim it.
All national title claims (yes, even Alabama's infamous 1941) are based on selections in the records book. Schools have never just made something up like UCF is doing.

Except they ARE doing something different. No one put up a banner or flag or anything until a selector listed in the records book actually named them.

The school itself doesn't claim 04. Never have. I can show you a pic of the flags in Jordan-Hare that only list 1957 and 2010.
