Jeff Bower and Byron Scott > Any GM/Coach combo in the NBA

Umm the last time I checked Boston, LA, and San Antonio have players that can get it done EVEN when one of their bigs goes down. They have that, the Hornets do not.

And part of being a GM is getting those players.

To all the Chandler haters who say he is vastly overrated and we should ship him out for Marion (let's quit with the Amare pipedreams whenever you're ready), how the hell is that not a giant white flag from NOLA? That trade says one thing:

"We don't think we have the talent to win the West right now, so we're just going to avoid the luxury tax. By making this trade, we understand that we now will have no one our roster that will come close to being able to guard the big body Duncans, Shaqs, Bynums and the rest of the bigs in the West. Thanks for the 40% increase in attendance fans, now bend over!"

Let me get this strait.

The salary cap is 55 million.

so you have to pay the luxury tax if your payroll is over 55 million???

if so every team in the NBA is over the 55 except for Grizzlies.

why do they even care about paying the tax.
the hornets are doing pretty good in attendance, even w/o CP3 in the lineup. if you add another star it can only make it better.

winning makes money. the lakers, cavs, celtics, mavs, suns are all teams that don't give a frick about the salary cap.

i doubt thier owners are losing money.

no there is a salary cap and luxury tax level

if you go over the luxury tax (which is around $62-65M), you pay dollar for dollar what you go oer it by

cheap owner + small market

the lakers only go over the luxury tax level for elite players (gasol). they're likely dumping odom after this year to help out. the suns care about the luxury tax. they have fricked themselves to stay under
mavs and knicks don't care

cavs have to sell the franchise to lebron

celts ownership went back and forth for a while before decidin to OK allen/garnett. they have a lot more money and make a lot more money and shinn

You guys (even Ron Mexico) are forgetting one huge aspect of this trade.

If the Hornets stay as currently constituted they would be favorites to get into the 2nd round of the playoffs. That's at least 2 extra sold out home games (at increased playoff prices) which grosses close to $2M per game. What if the Hornets as currently constituted somehow get to the WCF? You're looking at as much as $12M extra revenue in those 2nd and 3rd playoff rounds that you'd be throwing away by waiving the white flag.

The Hornets are still in 4th place in the West despite slow starts from Chandler and West and Posey. And despite all the injuries.

I think they should dump MoPete any way possible - give up next year's 1st if you have to - and roll the dice.

so why would an owner care if he has to pay an extra 4 or 5 million to get better players and go further into the playoffs, all things that will increase the revenue.

you cant' really say he's cheap

overpaid for peja, tyson, mopete, and posey.

no one thought he was going to go get all of those guys that summer.

now he has to make room for CP3, CP3 may be the most untradeable player in the NBA b/c of what he means to this organization.

without him you can kiss the Hornets goodbye, or to seattle, whereever they end up.

so it's kind of hard to say he's cheap when he's shown he's will to pay, and the fact that he has to pay CP3 whatever he wants.

and we got rid of the draft pick to get Posey i thought.

Bc his franchise was winning too much and the town couldn't handle it.

Who had a better franchise start, the Hornets in Charlotte or the Bobcats?

tyson isn't overpaid and we got a steal when we got him

peja is overpaid

mo-pete/posey = MLE guys

quote:

so it's kind of hard to say he's cheap when he's shown he's will to pay

he "paid" for about half of this year and he's already giving up on the future (and he sold our last 1st round pick)

you do realize that we're 21st in the NBA this year at only $68M or so, right?

draft pick didn't affect our cap and didn't affect signing posey. it was just to save money

no. he sold off all their good players and refused to pay to improve his team, so the fans gave up on him

not really. he alienated the fans with some personal and personnel stuff. I still can't believe how bad that whole thing went.

im really not disagreeing with you on any of this.

i'm just trying to think what his plans are and how he wants to run his business.

he does things that show he's all about the team and winning and then does things that are just stupid and selfish.

i really just dont' know what he wants out of owning this team.

does he want to make the most money as possible no matter what.
or does he want to win the NBA championship, or at least be a contender every year while not making as much.

how much is Shinn worth??
i don't think he's a billionaire is he?
