Maybe the know they need the cap space to target a possible LEGIT backcourt partner with CP who can slash the basket and be a creator out there.

So you get a good 2 guard and then have absolutely nobody in the post? That seems like a winning formula...

Ronnie Mex....

I understand the business side of the deal with Marion having an expiring contrsct - I know why the Hornets wouldmake the deal.

My post was just the fan in me, I'd hate to see more Sean Marks playing time "anchoring" the middle.

im a fan too, and i want them to win, but i also dont want us selling out on a pipe dream to make the WCF this year

and remember, the deadline is still over a week away, the hornets could still make a play for a center, as there are a couple of them out there

amare would be fricking PERFECT for this team, but doubt it could happen, but there is still jermaine oneal, marcus camby, sheed, and others out there that could be had

and with our tight arse fricking owner, we could always just give up our draft picks and set a team right now cause shinn and co dont want to pay them anyways

It's pretty hard to try to put 5 all-stars out on the floor. Especially for organizations like the hornets with Paul in his prime... you got to carefully choose where you want to spend your $$$ and its not like Tyson is a scoring threat... outside of alley oops created by CP served on the platter with an appetizer.

You don't win it all without a big man unless you're MJ. LBJ might be able to do it. You can't have Hilton Armstrong as your starting center.

This move = $alary Dump

Chandler is vastly overrated, but he is NO's only Big. Still, if the ultimate goal is to win the West and NBA..TC isn't the answer as the starting Center.

NO isn't getting past LA or SA this year, and need room to manuever for next year..

I'd be for this move.

Why are you assuming we aren't going to do anything else with the big man position between now and the start of next season?

I don't think the deal is truly about "marion" as more it is about cap space IMO.

thats def what it is about

but its not like we would be packing it in at this point

The only reason for this trade is to clear cap space after the year when Marion's contract runs out.

no they'll still be over the cap

if they let marions' salary go off the books, their ability to make moves in the future is hurt

the hornets really really really need to try to get miami to take peja as well

and it wouldnt even be a bad trade for the heat if they did

they acquire that inside presence they lack plus a deadly outside shooter

because once they lower their payroll, they lose that money to make trades in the NBA

remember, if you're over the cap (which the hornets and just about everyone else is), you have to deal salary for salary (within a range of 25% i think). losing salary to deal = losing the ability to make deals

Salary cap space is always the most beneficial thing about NBA trades.

Chandler's $$$ is not enough to trade for Marion. They will probably have to do a Chandler AND MoPete for Marion for the deal to work.

We've cleared two contracts off the hornets books that would have been on for 2 years and getting one huge expiring contract which is exactly what we want to be able to be a player in this upcoming free agency.

Anything outside of that, you are losing me.

I don't know how I feel about this. I like Chandler. Maybe overrated, but New Orleans' only legit big. To trade Chandler is to say "we can't do it this year". I'm not at all a fan of acquiring Shawn Marion for Chandler either. Are we supposed to run on everyone, and let our rebounding suffer because of it? Financially, this deal makes sense. As far as the on court product, it may suffer for 1-2 seasons.
