Texas State's men's basketball team played in a racially insensitive climate under Danny Kaspar, according to two former players who said the coach directed ethnic jokes and various stereotypes at minority players.

Former Bobcats point guard Jaylen Shead tweeted his allegations Thursday. He said Kaspar told a roster of predominantly black players to "chase that chicken" when he wanted them to run faster and told players who didn't exceed a 2.2 GPA that they would end up working at Popeyes.

In his tweet, Shead wrote that in practice, when Kaspar wanted players to speed up, the coach told them they would run faster if a "brown man with a [turban] and an AK-47" entered the gym.

Peacock also said Kaspar threatened to use racial slurs, which Shead's tweet referenced, after hearing the team's black players use a variation of the N-word among one another.

"He told the black players that if you can use it, I can use it," Peacock said. "That's one of the ones where you're like, 'OK ... no.' Those are two different meanings than when we use it.

I call BS on this. Even before we reached the pinnacle of wokeness someone would have said something about comments that racist and derogatory.

It's 400 years later and we're still having witch hunts. Humans never really change.

Nice. Kaspar has been decent enough but I haven't jumped on his train like most of our fan base. Wouldn't be sad if he were to get let go.

He's not wrong.

he brought this team back to being somewhat competitive in conference. i firmly believe they would have made the dance this year. that they could have won the sun belt tourney.

the program has been trash for so long and they were finally getting ok players. this is gonna set them back a decade.

Eh. His teams continued to fail down the stretch and fail to even make the NIT. His teams were mediocre. While previously they were trash.

Also, I think it's pretty fricking silly if he gets fired for saying any of that.

Well I may take back what I said about him getting fired. LINK

quote:

just spoke to a former
@TXStateMBB
player who wished to remain anonymous and he had this to say about
@thejayyshead
's comments on TXST basketball coach Danny Kaspar,
"He was the worst coach I ever played for...Was racist and disrespectful to my mom"

quote:

""Everyone in that school, all of them knew what he did (and) knew he was racist."
"(Kaspar) told me if I didn't listen to him he would end my career and I wouldn't get a job after Texas State and I would be working fast food cause that's the only jobs we can get."

Why do current players never comment on these things when they happen and allow others to suffer?
