Anyone know much about this. My 6 year old is really getting into baseball and is pretty good. The rec season is about to end and he really likes to play. How old do most start travel ball. How much does it cost? What kind of time commitment is it? How long are the seasons?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

Coaches pitch. I've heard of leagues starting at 7.

Pretty good penny depending on the team. It's fun and the new way for most kids. Rec leagues just aren't the same and travel ball is better quality. Takes a good bit of commitment thou. Practicing during the week and tournaments prob 2-3 times a month. Every Saturday and Sunday. I loved it as a kid. So much different then your local league. More challenging and your kid will get better

Yeah coaches pitch starts at 7, your rec league could do a Allstar team. It's close enough to travel ball if the league has a really good coach.

My friend spent $700 on gas in the last two months going to out of town practices and tournaments. Not counting hotels, bats, gloves, uniforms, yada yada. If you're not an OT Baller, this will take up a good portion of your discretionary income.

My son started travel at 8, he is 9 now and we love it. It really depends on the teams plans and how much time your willing to commit for your son. We practice twice a week and play 2-3 weekends a month from late February to July. Not all teams play as much or travel as far. Our fees are on the lower end because we do so much fundraising, and we still spend about about $2k a year when you consider fees, gate fees, travel and some lodging. And thats probably on the lower end. You really need to talk with the coach and understand what the goals are. A good group of PARENTS/kids will make the difference for an awesome experience for your son. I would wait until he is at least 8U coaches pitch, unless you find the right situation for him and your family.

Thanks guys. I'll probably wait a year or two. One of the dads on my son's team was telling me about and recommended we get into it. I just wanted to learn a bit about it and didn't find much on Google.

Nephew has played for 6 years now. Really no reason to start until 10-11 to be honest.

My son played in his first tournament this weekend (turns 8 this summer). I got to see a coach kicked out of the facility and the coach of the team who beat us to knock us out yelling at his whole team after the game was over because they didn't beat us badly enough.

All about the kids having fun, amiright?

It kills small town little league and jr high teams because the die hard players don't play for the school or little league leaving too few kids for those teams. I really dislike the concept.
