If you guys are going to bitch about the home field set up, then I would think you would have an issue with teams getting in that have worse records than others.
ETA: And while I think playoff standings should be based on overall record, I recognize that it would be very difficult to implement and most people wouldn't like it. It would essentially do away with divisions.

Beyond the "reward" argument, there has not been any answer to why a mediocre should get a playoff spot over another team with a much better winning percentage who happens to play in a better division.
