Texans might not be a good nickname, but Reliant Stadium is bad-arse from what my drunken self can remember from the MLS all-star game

I get what you're saying, but I don't think that interpretation of it translates well outside of Texas' borders.
Tennessee Volunteers, ironically, conveys the image of an aspect of the Texas Republic's military better than "Houston Texans" does.
I'm all for sports teams names that convey local culture and tradition. I just think "Texans" is too obvious and uncreative. I also think it perpetuates the old stereotype of Texans as egotistical and self-obsessed as a people. As you imply, no other state could pull off that name.. but then again, no other state would TRY to.

This is why I like it. WGAF what outsiders think? And it beats the hell out of a stupid animal nickname. The Bobcats have the worst name in pro sports. Not only because it's so generic, but because the previous owner was douchey enough to inject his first name.
I would've liked to recreate the Oilers and bring back the old unis, though I'm not sure Bud Adams wanted to give them up. They had a bit of history and like someone else said, they were Houston's team. Before Adams screwed things up, people here were crazy for them - at least that's what I'm told. Check out this homecoming after they LOST to the Steelers in the '78 AFC Championship Game.
