Atari,
In your opinion would the Texans have been more embraced by Houston if they had gone with "Oilers" and the old logo/unis as Cleveland did?
Was this ever seriously considered?
As a neutral outsider, I don't hate Texans at all - I actually thought it was a decent jab at the Cowboys who obviously fancy themselves as not only Texas' team but America's team. It was a nice little tweak which is okay in my book. Also, the uniform and logos are kick arse. The Texans helmet is as sweet as any newer helmet in the league.
With that being said, I'd have preferred "Oilers" over Texans... but at least you guys didn't end up with a lame non-plural nickname and shitty color scheme like the OKC Thunder did.

It's also a jab at Dallas because the team that was there prior to the boys was the Dallas Texans. They moved to KC (almost moved to NOLA, fwiw) and became the Chiefs.
Not really a bad name. The Wizards happened because the NBA didn't like Bullets given DC's uptick in crime in recent decades, even though the name was not a reference to guns but to bullet points on paper. Not the best name, either, and Wizards is what happens when you let fans vote.
However, the Charlotte Bobcats happen when you let an egotistical owner name them after himself.
The Raptors are horrible, as are the Ducks because both or based on movies and not anything to do with the city or fan base.
I am not going to include the WNBA in this because it would not be fair.

I'm a Texan fan but hate the name, but probably not for the same reasons.

Blue Jackets is a great name. It emphasizes the North's superiority over the South.
ETA: Our team slogan's the best, also. Carry the flag!
