Ok the superdome is pretty recognizable but no way it's the most in the country. I don't mean any offense but most of the country has forgotten about Katrina at this point. I doubt a picture of the superdome would suddenly bring back memories of the news.

So 7 super bowls, 4 National Championships, Ali's fight, Final 4's, RNC, concerts, Mardi Gras, etc.

I've been told not to look at it from a sports fans view.

So other than the Super Bowl none of those sports events count.

108 million people tuned in for the Super Bowl this year. The blackout added even more to the story. It was the front page of almost every newspaper in the country.

I have no idea what the most recognizable stadium is, but the SuperDome is up there

I imagine most people would say they recognize it, but couldn't tell you the name or where it's located.

I'm going to do a survey around my office in Memphis and see if people know what it is

Ok...I as well as hundreds of millions turned into the last World Cup final. If you showed me 5 soccer stadiums and had me pick out which one it happened in I would have a 20% chance of telling you the right answer.

They do this every year.

So Reliant is up there
Arizona's stadium is up there because 100million people watched a Super Bowl there. I don't even know the name of it, I couldn't pick it out of 5 pictures you show me probably.

Just because you've seen it on TV before doesn't make it recognizable.

I'm not saying the Superdome isn't, but I'm saying hosting the Super Bowl isn't what makes it recognizable.

It was so hard to sell the naming rights b/c it was to well known as the Superdome.

because it is the only time you have ever been exposed to that stadium

The title says American stadiums. The SuperDome is in the news more than any other stadium in America. Repetition matters and NOLA has that

ESPN ranking

#4

quote:

Seven Super Bowls, four BCS Championships, five Final Fours, host site of the annual Sugar Bowl, and Muhammad Ali's final boxing victory are just a few of the high-profile events hosted by the Superdome, which was also the former home of Pistol Pete Maravich and the New Orleans Jazz. Adding to this storied history was rebirth of both a great city and sports venue after Hurricane Katrina in 2006 when the New Orleans Saints came marching back in to the Superdome. The Superdome opened as the largest domed structure in the world in 1975 and remained so until 1992.

If you can't pick that one out, then you aren't really paying attention.

Doesn't mean much to the majority of people who can't recognize (name, location) one stadium, much less 5.

I would guess most people have heard the term Superdome, would recognize the shape but again, couldn't tell you where it was located.

Superdome is more than likely in the top 5. Unique shape and materials.

If anyone thinks it is because of Katrina they are grabbing at straws. The building can stand on its own.

ehhh.

Pre-Katrina I would agree.

It was the icon of national news for months in 2005.

Any other stadiums in the US represent a months long national news story?

This is so dumb, 75 percent of the people on this board are from Louisiana of course the superdome is going to be the most recognizable american stadium in their eyes. Unfortunately for them it looks like a dome, and nothing else. Cowboys stadium on the other hand is much more recognizable.

Which is the damn point.

Lots of people will watch the Super Bowl, how many of them are paying attention to what the fricking stadium looks like?

Lots of people watch solely for the commercials, we all know this. Others have it on TV for a party and don't pay attention until the halftime show, or if a big play happens.

Others, like myself, don't give 2 shits about the stadium.

The biggest non-sports event (what this thread is about) to happen at any US stadium is grasping at straws?
