Despite an unprecedented run of success among its sports teams over the past several years, De La Salle has parted ways with athletic director Tony Bonura, he confirmed Monday (April 2). Bonura, 49, spent nearly seven years as AD at his alma mater and 15 years there overall, making several key hires that led to some of the most significant victories in the school's 69-year history.

Two championships and two runners up in wrestling. State championship in basketball and semi finalist this year. Unprecedented runs in football the last two years.
They are 18-4 in baseball and have beaten Jesuit twice, holy cross, and brother Martin out of district. I wonder what’s going on?
I wonder if they will pursue Joey Latino who is the assistant athletic director at Jesuit and also a DLS graduate

I wonder, too.
Article states that his youngest graduates from DlS in May; also that it's by mutual consent.

Still curious. I knew Tony at one of his previous jobs.

I saw that. The only thing fishy is that the school has declined to comment. Of course the other fishy thing is that they have been dominant in the major sports the past few years. LOL

I know Tony's dad is Marion Bonura who used to coach and is currently on the Jefferson Parish School Board.

I think Kenny and Tony are brothers or maybe cousins?

Coach Latino also coached the baseball team at DLS for several years.

Very interesting.

Weird timing. You would think he would finish the school year unless there is an incident that occurred. He seems to have been a big part in the schools arhletic turnaround.

Obviously school administration supported the hires, but know they are on atleast their second- possibly third- president in that time frame.

Right. Dr. Guillot passed away suddenly from late-stage cancer, then Dr Seghers served like a year or two basically as a caretaker, until Giambelluca took over. Giambelluca of course spent over a decade as principal at Jesuit. One of the hires made at Jesuit while he was principal? Joey Latino.

Giambelluca worked at one of Tony's previous gigs, too.

The timing isn't all that suspect. It's April, Catholic schools are distributing contracts to their teachers about now, or they're asking teachers if they're returning.

I date his oldest daughter (no pics) but he has done some amazing things at that school athletically, deserves a lot of credit for rebuilding all the programs. I am upset to see him leave my high school. Just knowing where that school was back in 2013 to where it is now. Night and day.

I saw the title and clicked cause I remember my friends brothers name growing up was Tony and I wanted to see if same person. I hung with Michael and his dad, Marion, was my coach in baseball and we won a championship that year.

Funny to see a picture of him, haven’t seen him in over 30 years.
