This is more likely. I highly doubt TB is trying to trademark those to actually use for merch and profit from. Most likely trying to keep others from doing it. I see no harm in it.

This is quite the "untouchable idol" scenario you've constructed for Tom.
Crazy how he pays his Twitter guy to write love letters to his wife, too.
If anything this just supports my original/only point that he's a frickin weirdo. An all-time great weirdo, sure, but a weirdo nonetheless.

Or I simply know how the internet works and how most celebrities have their twitter set up to lower their risk of a bad PR and increase their chance at good PR

I'm sure he pays people to help run his social media.
But to act like a control freak with a historically small circle doesn't have input on his brand and image is way crazier than the hypothetical you're submitting.
As mentioned above: there is a love letter to his wife on his timeline. I'm pretty sure he weighed in on that a little. And if he didn't, then he's definitely a weirdo.
