The shoulder harness he's wearing, my guess is an AC joint separation. Depending on the grade they can be very painful.
I got a Grade 2 playing hockey as a kid. Really hurt and was out about 3-4 weeks. My oldest also got one playing hockey at 16, Grade 3, which was a bad blowout, like car wreck grade. He was out 6 weeks.
