Thoughts on conference runner up games…

Conference Championship game remains as is. On the same day (or day prior) the 3rd and 4th team play, and the 5th and 6th team play. This would allow for the Vanderbilt and Texas to build their resume, while also penalizing a team that loses the conference championship game by a wide margin (Gumps).
Different conference can determine how many extra games they would add.

Now the teams ranked 7th or 8th will whine that 1-6 got to play while they didn't

It would have been A&M and Ole Miss in this game. It wouldn't have helped anything.

I do think every team in playoff contention should have to play on conference championship week, but I wouldn’t tie it to conferences and wouldn’t allow rematches.
Oregon-Utah
Ole Miss-USC
Texas A&M-Vanderbilt
Oklahoma-Miami
Notre Dame-Texas
My fear with this would be that it would become a de facto 16 team playoff whereas I’d want to it to be treated as just an extra resume point.
USC for example wouldn’t deserve to get into a 12 team field even if they beat Ole Miss.

Pretty stupid I think.
Should get rid of conf championship games tbh… especially with the playoff
