BTW, I don't agree with the OP's claim that Durant is better than LeBron, but the gap is narrow.

Dwight needs to run away with the MVP though. Without him, the Magic would be Charlotte bad. Okay maybe not that bad, but at least Hornets bad.

Wilt also didn't have the advanced training regimens, nutritional advantages, and the depth of coaching that players have today.

I hate this argument. Players are better today than they were back then. The reasons for it are irrelevant.

There are some guys close to or on par with LeBron's athleticism in the league today. And overall, the athleticism in the league is at an all-time high.

There was maybe one guy as athletic as Wilt. And that's being very generous.

Neither did other players of his time.

No, because LeBron isn't taller than every other player by a few inches and the game has evolved where there is crazy athleticism on every team.

As for your claim that Wilt would be an average big in today's game, that's just horribly stupid.

No it's 100% true. Pretty much any C/PF starter in the league could have put up those numbers in Wilts day.

Wilt also played against a bunch of 6'5 guys. Wilt would be an average big in todays game.
Wilt would still be one of the best in the league but yeah, you really cant compare the numbers of those old school guys to today's game at all. The talent pool was so small.

You probably need to start comparisons at the merger.

Oscar Robertson averaged a triple double each of his first 4 seasons in the league and missed doing it again in his 5th season by one rebound

Elgin Baylor was 6'5" and averaged 25pts 15rebs as a rookie. 35/20 by his 3rd year, then 38/19 the next year.

Durant is averaging over 3 assists for the first time in his fricking career. He's at 3.4 I believe.

Durant doesn't score it as efficiently, he doesn't pass it as well, he doesn't rebound as well, and he's not near the defender that James is. Durant has a negative assist/TO ratio. James is even is shooting it better from three, but he doesn't take nearly as many from that range as Durant does, so we'll throw that out.

Durant is better from the foul line and 16-23 foot jumpers. He is also better at blocking shots, looking at the statistics.

LeBron is far and away the best player in basketball this season. It's not close. Durant may be 2nd, which is a great testament to him.

I have been so impressed with Durant this year. I think it is partially because Howard has had a relatively slow start, but Durant is making a solid case to be #2.

Yes he is but Lebron is the best in the league at getting to the line. And has the most free throws in the league.

TNT just said he did. They may be wrong. I didn't look it up.

ETA Just looked it up. He is second by 3 free throws.

It's close. He's definitely top 4, just to be safe.

Wade is having a great year as well. His statistics aren't going to blow anyone away, but he's been incredibly efficient. And with the years that James and Bosh are having, he doesn't have to blow anyone away. He's been pretty consistent this year though. I've viewed him as the second best player in the league behind LeBron for the last three seasons, but that will probably end this year, mainly because of stats. Stats aren't everything, but they're what people love.

Going with the closer,
Aka kid clutch
aka the gift
aka durantula

KD for MVP

According to Chuck Barkley, OKC is just a streaky jump shooting team, yet KD has them #1 in the league.

The west is tougher than the east, yet the Thunder is at the top.

James is doing it with the best 2 guard and #5 PF in the game

KD is doing it with the #3 PG and a bunch of role players.

KD loves the end of the game.

he's had 3 steals in the 4th Q alone and you're upset that he hadn't score in all 4 minutes he had played? Come on
