The only positive is that maybe, just maybe, the era of these ridiculous guaranteed contracts and buyouts is coming to an end.
Don’t count on it. Last week, Cignetti’s new contract extension gave him the 3rd highest buyout in the country…only behind Kirby Smart and Lincoln Riley.

Probably going to have several more coaches get similar extensions and raises from their current schools in the next few weeks from schools that don’t want UF, FSU, PSU, or Arky poaching their coach away.

Hell, having to be interviewed by Holly Rowe walking off the field would have been a shock. He, like us, would have longed for the days of Jill Arrington.

Not where I was expecting you to go with that, but well done.

A large part of the appeal/magic of College Football back in the day was that it was truly regional.
90% of the players for a given team were from that state.
People took pride because it was actually our guys vs your guys.

Now it's more like the NFL.

i may feel like it is not as good but yall do understand that its more popular now than maybe ever right?

yall also realize part of that is yall just getting older and having other priorities too....right?

Anecdotal but I work with a lot of LSU students and they 100% give way less of a shite than I and my buddies did when I was at LSU 15 years ago

You do understand the that the buyouts are also a result of “muh free market”, right? Or are you just “muh free market” when it suits you?

I have a problem with incentivizing someone to do a bad job but good for them for getting it.

But that is the free market at its work.

I bet you think teachers and nurses should get a million dollars for how hard they work huh? Get people to stop watching CFB and they’ll get paid less and you can cry less

When Woody Hayes was fired in the late 70's he was making 75K a year and living in this conservative home.

That was after coaching for decades and winning multiple National Championships.

In today's college football world, Woody Hayes would have been fired in 1959 after going 3-5-1 (2-4-1) with a loss to Michigan and never would have had the long storied career at OSU.
