College football has the best regular season in sports

“Used to have the best regular season in sports.” Those days are long gone my friend. No one cares if Washington wins the Pac-whatever and goes to the Rose bowl ranked #7, but they sure as hell will care when they win the pac-whatever and get to host Sec runner up Florida in a 20 degree pacific northwest snowstorm first round playoff game.

This will reignite the passion that has been missing in the college game.

Expanded playoffs always devalue regular seasons A larger playoff just shifts "meaningful" games it doesn't create more By your logic fan interest should be bottoming out right now

Nah. What devalues the regular season is when conferences, particularly 1-bid conferences, award their single playoff bid to the conference tournament winner. They can have a 27-win team get sent to the NIT and send their 19-win tourney champion to the dance.

And then you also have the multi-bid conferences that do get their 18-win teams into the tournament anyway.

Thats why the regular season is losing meaning, not because they have 64 teams playing in march.

A 4 team playoff would be fine if the conferences had stayed like they were, 10 teams, instead of doubling in size. Now you have to have more teams in a playoff because nobody is going to want to see 3 teams from the SEC and Ohio State in the playoffs every year.
ESPN killed college football with greed and forcing these conferences to expand. Starting with the ACC destroying the Big East. Which hasn't worked out for them, on the field, or the Big East teams that joined.
Bigger is not always better.

It’s a cool story or whatever, but even if UGA wins, they still win out and are in the playoffs.

Many a BCS champion had a loss. Many a team in the old poll era had a loss. What's your point?

This is part of what frustrates me the most. I was very opposed to expanding to a 4 team playoff because I thought it would make the sport worse. Now the same people who argued against me then, admit they were wrong, but now believe that more playoffs will fix the problem the playoff itself created. It's baffling.

How is the sport worse? What problem? I could argue that the BCS didn't get it any more right or wrong than the 4 team playoff.

You have to be unhappy on a personal level. What is going to change that? How in the world is college football ever going to come up with a program that makes Iowa State a champion?

I'm not the one saying this. I'm responding to his post.

Their logic:

Best regular season in sports
Create a 4 team playoff
The regular season isn't that great anymore
Let's expand the playoff

I don't understand that logic is what I'm saying.

What are you talking about? I'm extremely happy to go back to the BCS era. I'm also not an Iowa St fan.

You are the one that is obviously a dick since it apparently really pisses you off that 12 teams out of 131 might actually enjoy the postseason.

Never said that once. Never even implied that. Straw man defeated though.

But if you are naive enough to think that the college football playoff will ever go away, then I can't help you.

I believe I said the exact opposite. Good try though.

I have no problem stating that you are absolutely retarded if you think that having more teams with a chance to make the CFP in November will make the REGULAR SEASON more meaningless

I don't understand how this isn't obvious. More playoff teams means less pressure to win all of your games. Meaning losses aren't nearly as devastating. Which makes games less intense. You're trading major top 5 game intensity for 9-2 teams battling for the last playoff spot. You're trading an intense regular season for an intense playoff (involving a bunch of teams that really aren't worthy). Except as is the case now, a less intense regular season (and we only have 4 team playoff now) means ALL interest starts to fall. And you think "well let's just do more of the thing that caused the initial problem".
