12 years ago the student who was the mascot filmed himself using that very gun to hunt/kill a bear and the school got pissed.

They used to have little helmet stickers that looked like muskets. They were given out for big plays. Like the Buckeyes have the Buckeye Leafs on their helmets. The AD did away with WVU muskets stickers around 1990-1991 because of gun violence.
Obviously if we had social media back then the far right would have made a stink and WVU and it's AD would be labeled "woke" and "cancel culture".
These kinds if things have been around for decades, even centuries. We just didn't have social media.
