It is crazy that one of the GOAT college players can't hit a topspin backhand.

He did at USC and has during his pro career as well. He has chosen to only hit slice which makes it even weirder

Of course Stevie hits a 2 handed backhand return winner. I guess just to show he can do it if he wants to?

He came over the ball on the backhand three or four times that game. I've only ever seen that a couple of times a match from him.

Yeah he goes to the 2 hander on passing shots. Always the slice in rallies though

Djokovic certainly doesn't look like a guy who should be the overwhelming favorite in New York like a lot of people were predicting.

Imo he's no more of a favorite than Federer or Nadal. Stevie J deserves some credit for playing him tough tonight

Good read from Rhyne Williams, who, as I suspected, is retired as a pro tennis player:

Who are these "a lot of people" you speak of?

Yeah, if there is an overwhelming favorite at the Open this year, it's news to me.

three nasty Kyrgios forehands against Stan

The first one of the three was apparently 114 mph

Forehands don't come much faster than that.

Somebody in the youtube comments was saying one of the other ones was 205 km/h, which would be 127 mph. But, if so, that would be the fastest forehands ever hit, so I'm I'm calling BS on that.

This article from 2016 has a James Blake return of serve forehand as the fastest ever hit at 125 mph. link
It says Rafa has the fastest recorded backhand at 103.

This youtube clip right here shows a Murray rally forehand at 124, and a Delpo rally FH at 120.

I think that, to my eye, the crosscourt winner FH Delpo hit in the 2009 US Open final against Fed was the fastest I've seen. I don't know if it got a reading. You can see it here (the second one, to my eye): here

The third one is the shot I went crazy about when I was watching.

We have been complaining about the Nike pink and yellow highlighter clothes the last few years. They are now doing some things that may be worse. Shapo will be in this.

Hopefully, no one is sporting the Fed gear.

I think I'd rather the 90s neon geometric figures and lines.

Sock came out strong against Chung, then got smoked in the last two sets.
