I suspect Rafa or Tsetse will pull out of Cincy after a tough week in Toronto with good results.

If Djokovic wins this tournament, can he jump into the top 8 of the US Open draw? He has no points to defend this week because he didn't play last year.

Would suck if he stayed outside of the top 8, and then someone like Nadal, Federer, Cilic, or Zverev draws him before the quarters.

Man, I don't know the numbers. I'll keep an eye on Talk Tennis for the specifics, but I think it will be a tall task to get top 8 even if he wins Cincy (not easy). We're probably going to see Novak clash with someone huge in R16.

He only needs 225 to pass Isner and Thiem for #8. Isner is defending a SF, and Thiem a QF. Grigor is defending 1000 points as well. With the Rafa withdrawal, Novak has a clear path to the semis. Not to mention we have no idea what's up with Delpo's wrist, though he hasn't withdrawn from Cincy yet.

I would put the odds of him making the top 8 at about -150.

Tsitsipas was ranked 168th before the US Open last year.

He's currently #15.

We covered some of the other good first-rounders, but Isner/Querrey, Kei/Rublev, Pouille/Murray, Stan/Schwartz, and Gasquet/Busta are all pretty good, too.

Kei/Rublev is the normal-sized-guys-with-club-level-second-serves championship.

Rafa with his 80th ATP tournament win yesterday. 4th man to hit that number after Connors, Federer & Lendl

But Kei is like 5-9....which makes it more understandable.

Rublev's second serve is just garbagioso.

Shapo wins. Murray gave Pouille a good match.

pure ugly...not a single winner from Big Foe in the first 67 points of that set. Finally came down 40-0, 5-6.

I could get behind Tiafoe. Seems like a good dude, and he has a good personality. I'm just not completely sold on his game.

As stated many times before it is ridiculous that Stevie J hits slice on 100% of his backhand. I will never understand that.
