Isner is going to the wedding, for sure. I'm guessing Sock is in their posse.

Anyone to know if Tennys is going to get to play in Barcelona? Can he play his way in in Monaco?

Huh?

Tennys is 47 in the world. He will make every tourney with ease now besides the tour finals

How come Tennys is one of only 2 Americans in Monaco?

Americans seem to skip MC every year, so I don't think SJ's wedding is a factor. I've always wondered this myself, but when you stop and think about it from a player's perspective, it makes more sense.

First of all, there's Houston. It's only a 250, but it's a home event right after Miami. You can do both Houston and MC, but what kind of shape will you be in to make a run at MC if you make the final in Houston?

Skipping Houston and going straight to MC is an option, but look what happened to Donaldson. He lost today, so he's stuck in Europe for a week until Barcelona. If he goes out early in Barcelona, that's another 2 weeks of trying to find accommodations and places to practice before Madrid. Having a family and/or other obligations would make this even tougher.

On top of that, clay season runs into grass season, so there's no use flying back and forth from here to Europe. Once you are there, I'm guessing you are there until mid-July. So, playing Monte Carlo would mean 3 full months in Europe. It might be a net gain from a money perspective, but maybe not worth the hassle.

This was my take. Basically they don’t wanna spend two months in Europe, and they don’t wanna fly back and forth a ton either.

Will be interesting to see what Tennys does. How far in advance do players have to tel the tournaments? Is there a site that shows what tourney a player is playing in next?

If I were Tennys i’d i’d play al the masters and Barcelona too. He’s got a good clay court game, why not try to build up some extra points.

I gotta feeling Tennys is gonna find some rough sledding against Kohl. Traveling to Monaco on a brutal triple connecting flight is not the best way to recover after a hard-fought final.

Player Schedule

This is not always 100% accurate, but it's better than anything else out there.

I'm not sure how far in advance they have to register, but as far as I know, they can enter as many tournaments as possible, and withdraw later if they want. But, there must be something in place to discourage this, or else everyone would be doing it. Maybe there's a penalty for a certain number of withdrawals in a year.

Thanks. I go to that site frequently, but didn't know it showed that.

And that answers my question. Looks like he is staying in europe for a little while. I wonder if his coach went with him.

I really don't know much about the smaller tournaments. Barcelona only takes 48. I didn't know if he would be right in or not.

Shots sort of fired: LINK

quote:

Asked about Federer’s decision not to contest a single clay-court event for the second straight season, Nadal grinned broadly. “He says he will love to play against me again in best-of-five sets on clay,” came the reply. “He said that a couple of days ago – and I thought he would play Roland Garros. Then a few days later he says he will not play in one event, so there’s a little bit of controversy with that.”

I was asking if he could play his way into Barcelona with a good showing at Monaco. But it looks like he is already in at Barcelona (Thanks for that player schedule link!).

But a lot of guys aren't going to play Barcelona, so I would assume so.

How in the world is Djokovic still ranked #13?!? I can't remember the last time I saw him win a match. Ha.

I took a shot on this one at +360. Kohli just lost to a chubby Moroccan in his mid 30’s ranked in the 500’s. He also got bageled in the 2nd, and blew a 5-2 lead in the 3rd. Adrenaline alone should give Tennys a fighting chance, and I like his backhand compared to Kohli’s 1-hander.

Down goes Tennys, but hey, 17000 Euros will pay for a little room and board while in Europe.

Guess that was mostly expected. Thought he might buck the trend, like he’s been doing a lot lately.
