Yea I'm not expecting to get too close, just looking for the shortest trip possible.

My brother and sister in law lived in J'Vegas for about 10 years and my brother and I went to 2 or 3 TPCs back in the late 90s/early 00s and even got to play the stadium course one summer in the late 90s. I kinda took it for granted back then because we always ended up getting free tickets through his work and he only lived about 15 minutes away and only 1 exit north on I-95 from the World Golf Village.

The TPC is a fun event although I find it less "find a hole and sit for the day" friendly than a lot of PGA Tour venues. The only real holes setup really well for that are 17 and 18. TPC is a tournament where it's better to pick a favorite group or groups and follow them a few holes at a time.

Jacksonville is an awesome golf city and truly has a golf culture in the same way New Orleans has a food culture. Just about every new neighborhood development in the area is centered around a golf course.

Thanks for the info. What would be your suggestion as far as where to try and stay this close to the event?

You can try these, but you'd better hurry:

LINK

You are just wayyy behind the 8 ball to find anything close. Everything around here was booked months ago for the TPC. Maybe check out St. Augustine. There are some Comfort Inn and Quality Suited type places down there that may be available. Anything available up here is over $200/night

ETA: It's not the nicest hotel, but it is close to the beach and within 20 minutes of Sawgrass

Days Inn - Neptune Beach (Rooms avail)

they usually play in threesomes for the first two rounds (not sure if they'll do this at the TPC)

It's a full field event, so they'll be out in three's. And 16 green, 17, and 18 tee are all in the same area. It's just that 17 is crowded starting on Tuesday.

I am also attending The Players. I am looking to play a round on Monday before heading back home. Are there any "got to play courses" in the area? Im sure there are a ton of courses but any worth it? TIA

Neptune beach. I am not familiar with any of the area, and let the girlfriend plan the trip so who knows how it will turn out

I'm not too familiar with the immediate JAX area. Some courses a little south that you may want to consider are:

a) World Golf Village (I-95 at St. Augustine)
b) LPGA in Daytona Bch (36 holes; both were very good when I last played them 10+ years ago).
c) Victoria Hills in Deland (never played it but it was on the top of my 'courses to play list' when I moved)
d) Walkabout in Mims, FL (just over an hour south of Ponte Vedra).

Hit'em straight!

I have been 4 times. Great tournament and atmosphere.

I attended the Wed. practice rounds and cut day (Fri.). The practice round was great because my BIL knew many of the players and we could chat with them between holes. Also, there is a closest to the pin on #17 for the caddies. Each caddy hits a shot into 17, the closest at the end of the day gets a pot of money that the pros had been contributing to.

Cut day is great because you get to see all the players.

Hope you enjoy.

That seems like a cool deal for the caddies. Is it easy to follow a certain group? Atlanta Athletic Club was open enough we were able to follow groups pretty easily.

Yes, the course was built with spectators in mind, so it is easy to get around and there are plenty of mounds where you can get an elevated view.

I haven't been since they changed the date from March to May, but I am dying to go again.
