I'm betting that most of you are too young to have seen Martina in her prime. She revolutionized the game. Not only did she bring power to the women's game, she brought a bit of finesse as well. She could trade power backhands or passing shots with the best of them. She could dial up an ace pretty much at will. Also, there was no player in her era who could match her at the net.
I'll take Martina in her prime against anyone.
I'll take Graf over Martina.
Fact: Women's tennis back in the day used to be really really bad. There was no depth. There was anti-depth. Until the early 90s women's tennis consisted of one or two players at any given time who could hit something other than a moonball. I'm not even exagerrating. Pull up an old youtube clip.
I'll give credit to Martina for changing the game. She brought power and aggressive play to the game when all the other girls on the tour except Evert were hitting goddamn moonballs. But that's also the reason she was so dominant. There was only one other player that was worth her weight in dogshit and that was Chris Evert. Once Martina established herself as better than Evert, every title was hers.
Steffi, who btw was beating Martina in Majors when Martina was still in her prime (but at the tail end) and Steffi was 17, dominated in an era where more than two players actually had the ability to hit the ball over 45 miles per hour.*
Also, Steffi was an all-around better athlete than Martina and a more versatile player.
*And this progression has continued. Every subsequent era in women's tennis has been better than the one before. This isnt' surprising. More girls are playing the game at a young age. For example, apparently every Russian and Eastern European girl and their goddamn cousins are given a standard issue government racquet at age 4 and told to hit the courts. I'm making a joke, but there is some truth to it as well. The game that Serena has been dominated has more depth than the game when Steffi dominated, and much much much more depth than when Martina dominated.

GRAF in her prime would WHIP Serena EVERY TIME they played. YES she was THAT GOOD.
Graf was great. But if she wasn't able to handle Monica Seles' power off the ground -- and she wasn't (see years 1991 and 1992) -- then how do you think she would have fared against Serena's?
And that isn't even bringing Serena's serve into the conversation.

Serena has a great serve. But Graf would have returned more than you think and changed the game on Serena. SHE is great when she dominates the serve. But just average when having to volley. GRAF would eat her up.

OK LETS talk about tomorrow..................
The crowd will be CRAZY... We know this. I think Murray has a great chance..... IF he can avoid the 1st time jitters and unforced errors.
FED has a great shot cause he has beem there and the crowd will NOT bother him....
MY PICK....
FED 6-4,5-7,6-3,6-3.
Murray WILL show up and have great moments but will not have enough.

Graf would be the fastest player Serena ever played against. Nobody female has ever covered the court like Graf. Some shots that normally would be a winner for Serena would be put back in play by Graf. This might frustrate Serena.
On the flipside, Serena might be able to just hit Graf off the court. Graf would have to return well and also be aggressive with her initial groundstrokes after the serve.
I think it would be an interesting matchup.

My thoughts are that if the match goes to 5 sets, Murray will win. Fed's level of play has a tendency to drop substantially in fifth sets of tightly contested matches. On more than a few occasions I've seen Fed begin to continually dump forehands into the bottom of the net in fifth sets. This could simply be a function of age. Fed can play as well as he could in 2006 for a set or two, but not for a whole match.
I think this phenomenon would be exacerbated by the fact that Murray would have played off all his jitters at that point, and would really start to feed off the crowd. I think if it goes to five, Murray will roll Fed in the fifth.
If Federer wins he will do it in straight sets or in four sets.
I think that if the roof is closed, Federer will DEFINITELY win.
I think somebody said it is supposed to rain, and so the roof will be closed. Assuming it is, I think Fed wins 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.
In fact, I like Fed in four even if the roof is open, but my answer is more faint hearted if that is the case.

weather.com has an 80%-90% chance of rain at Wimbledon tomorrow morning between 6 and when the matches are supposed to be getting started on their hourly forecast, so I'd imagine that the roof will be closed prior to the match, similar to Fed's semifinal

Not against an opponent like this. FED CAN get into Murrays head.

WHOA!!!!! I kow it wasn't a 5th set but he CREAMED Novak in 4 but if it would have went 5 I think fed STILL smokes him.

I can see this IF Murray gets caught UP in the moment.

I think THIS doesn't matter.IMO.

The two times Fed has beaten Djoker in majors, it has been in four. In fact, I can't recall the last time Fed won a five setter against a top player.
Anybody wanna help me out with that one?

The court plays faster with the roof closed. This helps Fed.
Also, Federer just seems to play better when the elements aren't a factor. He dominates at the ATP tour world finals when they play it at the O2 in London.

Dude - frick you. I am stunned that not only would you say something like that in the first place, but you're literally doubling down on it (and adding further bigotry to boot). You're a huge a-hole who needs to step into the TWENTIETH century (let alone the 21st).
There are too many people like you amongst LSU fans/alumni.
