The NFL finalized media rights deals worth $10B annually, or $110B over the course of the 11-year deals. For many consumers, the new deals will look largely like the last deals, with the big TV packages remaining unchanged on CBS, Fox, NBC and ESPN, albeit for much bigger rights fees, and many more digital rights. The deals begin with the '23 season and run through '33. ESPN, once again, will pay the highest rights fee, coming in at an average of $2.7B per year, though its 35% increase is far lower than the other media companies. Plus, its deal puts ABC in the Super Bowl rotation, will bring one exclusive international series game to ESPN+ and will allow the NFL to flex meaningful games onto Monday night.

ESPN signed a one-year deal for '22 so that its rights would match up with the other networks. It is not known how much of an increase it paid for that one season. NBC will see its average annual payout nearly double to around $2B per year for "Sunday Night Football." CBS' rights fee will double to $2.1B per year for the Sunday afternoon AFC package. Fox will pay $2.25B yearly for its Sunday afternoon NFC package.

The biggest change will come to “Thursday Night Football,” which will move exclusively to Amazon Prime starting in '22. Sources say Amazon is committed to pay an average of more than $1B per year for 15 exclusive "Thursday Night Football" games. The Thursday night games will be carried by local broadcasters in the home markets of the competing teams; NFL Network will carry a “limited schedule” of Thursday games, which could be a few as two games with Amazon carrying 15 exclusively.

The Super Bowl rotation will see CBS (2023, 2027, 2031), Fox (2024, 2028, 2032) and NBC (2025, 2029, 2033) carry three games each. ESPN/ABC will have two (2026, 2030).

Roger Goodell just said that one aspect of the NFL's new media deals is, "We're going to find ways we can engage fans with legalized sports betting." That is such an enormous departure from where the NFL used to be with gambling. A sea change in the NFL's approach.

ESPN's Jimmy Pitaro on Sunday Ticket: “We’ve had exploratory conversations with the league. Sunday Ticket is an incredibly valuable product. When the league is ready, we are interested in having that conversation with them.”

Good for them.

I just hope NFL package is an add on to ESPN+ membership, otherwise my subscription cost is about to start rising rapidly over something I’m not interested in.

Hopefully they create something like MLB TV where you can sign up and only watch your favorite team's games instead of paying for everything.

ATT has a ton of debt, no chance they were going to bid big money on NFL. I see them selling direct tv soon.

ATT has already stripped DC DC comics to the bones.

ABC will also get 2 SBs and broadcast some games.

Peacock and Paramount+ will also broadcast some of the games on CBS and NBC.

INTERACTIVITY & ALTERNATE BROADCASTS: The NFL's media partners will now have greater ability to innovate around their productions and provide interactive elements such as stats/data, chat and integrated social feeds as part of their digital presentations. Additionally, there will be alternate presentations of select NFL games in addition to each partner's main production similar to the one's fans viewed during the 2020 postseason with ESPN's MegaCast and CBS Sports' presentation on Nickelodeon.
