Most people think the Lakers have the most talented team in the NBA. If, say, Brandon Roy, Joe Johnson or Monta Ellis were in Kobe's place, would the Lakers still make the NBA Finals?

No the bench has been a major let down the last 2 years and Derek Fisher is the starting PG.

Why not on Monta? He's having the best year of the three so far.

He is undersized but that hasn't hurt him.
His main drawback is turnovers. With the Lakers not having a good PG and Kobe's IQ, it could hurt them a little bit, but the Lakers are an all-around efficient team as it is.

Nope, because Bynum cannot stay healthy, without Kobe they would need him to play big

No and Im no big Kobe fan but he is the leader of this team. I use to hate him but he has grown on me. Easily the best all round player in the league right now.

Monta < Gasol

And no team with Pau Gasol as its best player would ever reach the Finals, yet alone win a playoff game

Those guys are great, but a few are small to midsized.

Kobe, like Lebron, can play Guard or Forward, can get past 1s and 2s and/or back them down with ease, yet can elevate and take it to the rack vs 3s, 4s, and 5s..nearly at will.

Some of the aforementioned, can't always do such at will, though they can do it with regularity.

Black Mamba may be an arrogant jerk, but he is climbing up the alltime chart, to right below MJ as a player..and also maybe Bill Russell as a title winner.

Nobody says that, but he's still not as good as MJ. Anybody over the age of 18 recognizes that.

damn, i still feel the anger from the rockets hate i was slinging last year. fwiw, i made a sincere attempt to get on your good side in the other kobe thread of the day.

i'm over 18, yet feel kobe has the shot to surpass MJ. call me crazy.

What hate? What other thread?

I was just stating what every person with basketball knowledge recognizes. With your statement, you still recognize that MJ is the best ever.

I think they could with Roy because he is a team player and would share the ball a lot but can take over and score if need be in the 4th.

contrary to the kobe haters, this is exactly his game at this point in his career.

first few minutes of every quarter he is very passive and tries to get pau, bynum, odom, and artest going...if it doesn't pan out then he goes into black mamba(81) mode.
