I won't argue against that.....but when you use the word simple to describe someone's abilities it never equates to great.

the word "athlete" isnt very complex

to say that someone isnt an athlete because they dont jump high or run fast is just fricking stupid

I again totally agree.....you are really helping stress my point home.......

I never said Matt Jones wasn't an athlete.......I just was stressing that he ISN'T A GREAT ATHLETE.

Great athletes, the greatest athletes of all time......these guys can perform at a peak level in their chosen professional trade in the most clutch moments.......

Great athletes even on an average day outshine most of their peers........

Matt Jones may have been a great athlete in high school, and was decent in college but when he got around other athletes who had more are similar ability to him he became less than average....

If I'm going to throw the word great around, I'm going to use a pretty damn fine scale to relate him too.

Lets look at the definition of an athlete so we can see how ignorant your argument is

ath·lete (thlt)
n.
A person possessing the natural or acquired traits, such as strength, agility, and endurance, that are necessary for physical exercise or sports, especially those performed in competitive contexts.

How does this not describe Matt Jones?

If you can't take your god given athletic abilities and equate that to being a successful player in your chosen trade, you aren't a great athlete.

So if we were to make a list of top 20 greatest athletes of all time.........your putting Matt Jones on your list???

Simple question.........I know what you are trying to say I just don't agree with it.

You'd rank Matt Jones in the same breath as

Deion Sanders
Randy Moss
Terrel Owens
Michael Jordan
Herschel Walker
Bo Jackson
Mike Vick
Reggie Bush
Barry Sanders
Eric Dickerson
Jerry Rice
Muhammad Ali
Jesse Owens
?????????????

Like I said.......I'm not disagreeing that Matt Jones isn't fast or a great jumper.......but Matt Jones chosen trade is football......it just so happens that he isn't a great football player.

If Matt Jones ran track and succeeded......I'd consider him a GREAT athlete

If Matt Jones played basketball and succeeded......I'd consider him a GREAT Athlete

For all of Matt Jones's freakish athletic ability, he isn't able to translate it into success needed to be defined great by his chosen trade. I EMPHASIZE chosen.

All this arguing, lol.

There's 2 very separate definitions of an athlete when people have this debate.

It's not really that hard, lol.
