No, its actually a terrible system, especially now with conferences that are too big for everyone to play each other.
Texas Tech and A&M deserve a shot to play for a national title
Why does Alabama get a shot to play Georgia and Texas A&M doesn't when they broke a tie based on them not even playing each other?
Conference championships are stupid. Eliminate them and expand the playoffs to 16-24 teams

IMO, any discussion of what the CFP needs to be has to start with what it’s trying to accomplish.
If the goal is something like “reward the best and/or most deserving teams with a post-season tournament”, then I suppose there’s no limit to the “expand the playoffs argument”…because who knows what “best” or “most deserving” means.
If the goal is to determine a CFB champion, we absolutely don’t need more teams while we have reasonably intelligent people currently debating the validity of including James Madison and Duke.
