Dbacks in talks with the Atlanta Braves on a trade for Trevor Cahill.
Dbacks will eat about half of Cahill's $12 million contract and get prospects back in trade with Braves.

Better not give up any good prospects.

The #Braves are not comfortable placing two similar lefties (Wandy and Stults) back-to-back in their rotation.
Plus Alex Wood and I guess Minor at some point.

If #Braves got Cahill, Dbacks would have to either pay large portion of $12M he's owed in '15 or take a bad contract from ATL.

Sources: Braves RHP Arodys Vizcaino suspended for 80 games for PEDs. Announcement expected sometime soon.

Trade final. Braves got Cahill and cash for Josh Elander.

Which makes sense, but Cody Martin is a starting pitcher and available. He was good in Gwinnett and good during the spring.
Anyway, acquiring Cahill for 6m was clearly a buy low and hope-to-flip at the deadline trade. We are going him to eat innings until then, but they're anticipating a bounce back season from him and a prospect in return.
We'll see.

I like it. I think he'll produce good numbers in ATL this year. Pitching won't be our issue though.

Jesus FLores, Jose Constanza and reliever Todd Coffey are also all gone.

That's not a bad rotation.

Let's predict the stats from our starters.
C - Bethancourt: .295 avg, .730 OPS, 12 HR, 10 SB
1B - Freeman: .330 avg, .900 OPS, 28 HR, 100 BB, 110 RBI
2B - Peterson: .290 avg, .790 OPS, 8 HRs, 28 SB
3B - CJ: .325 avg, .800 OPS, 16 HR, 80 RBI
SS - Simmons: .305 avg, .760 OPS, 20 HR, 10 SB
LF - Gomes: .260 avg, .800 OPS, 15 HR
CF - EYJR: .270 avg, .705 OPS, 4 HR, 55 SB
RF - Markakis: .300 avg, .850 OPS, 15 HR, 100 runs
These are all pretty conservative. I think each can match and likely exceed these numbers.

I think your numbers are way too hopeful. Simmons, CJ or Bethancourt will NOT get close to .300
Freeman and Markakis are the only 2 with a chance to hit .300
With the numbers you just posted, the Braves would be contenders...hard to believe you thought that was conservative?

Yes. Don't see how everyone is giving up on this team before the season even starts.

I agree with you I think those numbers aren't conservative at all. How can we predict Peterson to hit 290 and Bethancourt at 295?

So are we happy with how things are shaping up? I need to be told since I don't have a clue.
FWIW, it is refreshing to have new faces and new storylines to follow. I don't like seeing some of the guys go last year, but I don't have the feeling of knowing that we will play well, but will fail at the end of the year. No expectations makes this more exciting, even if we fail miserably.

You kidding?
Peterson is hitting .330 in spring training and hit over .300 his last two minor league seasons.
Bethancourt has proven to get better every year. He's going to be a threat with the bat moving forward.

I don't like getting in batting average pissing matches with people because it can be a very empty stat.
That said, you have 6 of our regular starting 8 hitting over .290.
For reference, only 11 batters total hit over .290 in the NL last year.
