If the reports about who the coaching staff favored are true, this makes me think the FO has little respect for Fredi's opinion.
ETA: Unless they just want to bring Simmons up in June and keep him under team control for longer.

It's really a win win situation.
If he hits, then great.
If he doesn't, you call Simmons up mid season after he has more experience against advanced pitching AND you will get him under team control for an extra year.

John Grabow just opted out of his deal with the Dodgers and had a solid spring. He only four hits in 6 innings and didn't allow in run in his six appearances.
