Gattis will produce the power numbers but may suffer OBP/Avg playing a full schedule at C. Plus isn't he a below average defender compared to McCann?

Defensively, Gattis and McCann are pretty much a wash.

Imo Gattis is superior to McCann defensively outside of framing (where McCann is very, very good).

Was very surprising to me based on the scouting reports on Gattis as he was coming through the system.

It's damn near impossible to be a worse defensive catcher than Brian McCann

A few jersey number updates.

Alex Wood switches from #58 to #40.
Ryan Doumit will wear #4.
Gavin Floyd will wear #32.

A look at the Braves payroll situation moving forward

2014: ~$93.088MM/~$95.538MM projected opening day payroll (depending on Kimbrel arbitration hearing)

2015: $59.258M committed (11 players eligible for arbitration including Kimbrel, Medlen, Johnson and Minor)

2016: $28.05MM committed (Heyward, J Up, Medlen become free agents; 13 players eligible for arbitration including Kimbrel, Johnson, Minor, Simmons, Gattis, Teheran and Avilan)

That offseason before the 2016 season is going to be extremely, extremely interesting.

Huh? He is one of the best in the league at framing pitches, and he is average at worst defensively. He's also not as bad as advertised throwing the ball. He's gotten better at that over the years.

Gattis is much more athletic than McCann, which is why it was even remotely passable that he could play any OF (poorly as it may have been, it wasn't really because he was a slug).

I thought Gattis looked good behind the dish last year. He's gonna be a major part of our success or failure this year.

he was fourth in the NL in FIP and k% last year.

but he's old and hates 'new school' things like shifts and sabermetrics so perfect fit

Gattis gets on base less than Uggla. I am not a fan of him as an every day player.

I'm not a fan of Gattis being an everyday player either. I really hope he proves me wrong.

Meanwhile, I keep seeing pictures of Uggla in the cage, and I keep thinking what if he hits .250 this year and those dreamy forearms hit 30 homers? Could you imagine the impact he could make? A man can dream in Spring Training, right?

Uggla only has a couple of years left before he's a FA again, right? Time for the turnaround to start so he can ink another deal.
