With the win, and the sweep, the Braves improve to 8-1 and maintain their lead of 1.5 games on the Nationals, as well as continuing to hold on to the the best record in the MLB.

The Braves will not need to make a roster move until Ayala joins the team before Friday's series opener against the Nationals. At that time, they could choose to designate either Cristhian Martinez or Anthony Varvaro for assignment. Both right-handed relievers are out of options.

Either Martinez and Varvaro are better than Ayala.

Pena is a switch hitter.

I'm sure Schafer will be DFA'd

Eh, I'd say Ayala is better than Varvaro by a good bit. We need Martinez just so we have a decent long man.

Not sure what Varvaro and his 5.40 ERA last year did to impress anyone. Varvaro is crazy wild and gives up a bunch of homers.

Why did they make the move? Was it a matter of knowing they were going to lose one of them at some point this season when someone hit the DL?

Yeah, given the contract they gave to Reed it's the most likely scenario.

I'd say simply to improve the bullpen. Ayala had a 2.64 era last year in 75 IP and a 2.09 era the year before in 56 IP, 3.37 career era. He's a pretty solid career reliever.

The one thing that might lead me to think Varvaro might be gone now is that they will have to send someone down when Venters comes back anyway, and Gearrin would be the likely guy to send down then.

we have an embarrassment of riches...seriously what position could we improve? saw a tweet (from a fan, not a writer) wondering if we would trade McCann at the deadline if Gattis keeps this up...IDK what we could trade for to improve...we're so stacked at every single spot except manager (zing)

keep him somewhere...there is seriously no one I want to get rid of...when Mac gets back it will be before Freddie right? So Dewitt would go down first...no idea who would go down after that

Hopefully have him spell Mac against lefties and cover for Justin in LF on his days off.

Only real thing you could do is maybe trade Mac at the deadline for a legit prospect, maybe try and peel someone like Olt away from the Rangers for a 3B prospect.

Actually never mind, forgot the Rangers signed A.J. Pierzynski. But a young 3B would be our only possible need depending on how Road Runner develops, or possibly a young 2B.

Heyward has been pretty weak. Very Francoeurish IMO in that he had a few decent season but then acts like he forgot how to baseball in other seasons.

Maybe move J upton to RF and put GAttis in LF when McCann gets back if Heyward doesn't get his shite together.
