don't watch much golf but this course was beautiful last night on TV. Are there any well known US courses that are better?

Better is a matter of opinion, but there are just handful in the country that have same pedigree as far as architectural significance, history, and prestige that host major tournaments.

Augusta
Pebble Beach
Oakmont
Pinehurst #2
Riviera

Then there’s another group that have the same level of history and prestige, but have a little more mystique because they don’t get seen on tv much.

Pine Valley
Seminole
NGLA
Cypress Point

Many more that I’m not listing in the US and then you got a whole other world over on the British Isles that influenced a lot of what was done on the early courses of America.

I’m not a big enough nerd to give many more opinions, but golf history is an interesting rabbit hole to jump down every now and then.

Did they water the greens today for the afternoon groups?

There’s more well known courses, but there’s only a handful that I would say are definitely better. This is the best US Open course IMO, and if the USGA turns it loose it can get really brutal.

They pretty much said no chance of this at the press conference on Wednesday. The fairways are the widest they have ever been for a US Open at Shine a Cock

We need Higgs to get in the final pairing. Be kind of an Agent of Chaos to rattle Wyndham.

Other option is Rory. Wyndham is a notorious slicer. We get Rory bombing a couple by him, Wyndham’s ego will force him to start unleashing to hang and hopefully he’ll start ballooning a few into the hay.

Fair to say Rory has taken the best player in the world title from Scottie?

Meh what?

Unless Scottie makes a run here which is certainly possible, Rory is positioned to finish higher than him in 3/3 majors so far . With 1 win at least under his belt

This ain’t a 1 year thing. In the last 8 majors they are 4-4 in terms of who finished higher

Xander Schauffele isn’t Rory Mcilroy though. When Rory is playing well, he’s the favorite.

I think Rory has an opportunity to get to World #1 if he wants to try, but I don’t think that’s his goal. Kind of a secondary benefit of what he’s trying to do (big game hunt), but the OWGR is a rolling two year avg. Scottie’s monster 2024 is about to start rolling out.

I wonder what it’d look like if Rory picked up a major, wins the Scottish or Irish Opens, and makes a run in the playoffs.

It would be hard though with how Scottie just backdoors his way into top 5’s and 10’s even when he plays like shite.

Being ranked #1 and who people look at as the top dog going into majors isn’t the same thing

You know it’s playing long when Tour players are hitting DOD to lay up on a par 5.
