Surprised to see Refugio get owner by Shiner. Those two teams are head and shoulders above everyone else in that class, though.

The greatest. Living in Gilmer, I remember us playing them yearly back in those days. They were simply a machine. 631-8 scoring. Zero allowed in the playoffs. Beat us 14-0 that season and no one thought it would be that close.
Lone Star Steel employed thousands then. Lots of men from Gilmer and all over lost their jobs when the mill had mass layoffs on 82 and 83. That's likely the biggest and most incredible part of the 83 Tigers. Lone Star/Daingerfield had a 56% unemployment rate and some kids had to leave. Those who stayed saw the the dominance, only 1 loss in 84 in the SCG and then won it all again in 85 going 16-0. 47-1, 2 titles and terribly tough economics for almost every kid involved.

What’s crazy is the Daingerfield Defense never gave up a point
Safety game 1 and pick 6 game3 or 4. 16 shutouts in reality but only gets credit for 14. In some of those East Texas towns when oil busted it ruined them because they provided the parts and manufacturing that allowed for drilling etc.

I was way too young but dad used to tell me about the Big Sandy run from 71-75 with Lovie Smith, David Overstreet and more. I pass by the gas station in Winona David hit and the pumps exploded, tragically. Was w the Dolphins at the time.

Overstreet was a man. I remember watching him at OU as a kid
He had Buster as his other RB and I think Phelps at QB

ED Sealy
AD Palestine
Campbell Tyler
Overstreet

My wide receiver coach in high school is now the head coach at Texas High. A lot of people think he was a mole inside my program when I was there who helped overthrow the sitting head coach and install someone else.
Drama.
