And my point is that bigger and better cities than Austin don't seem to have to make this excuse because they have huge sports followings. That argument holds no water.

You mean like Los Angeles or maybe Miami?

Also pro sports in big cities like NYC is not the same as college sports. I've been trying to tell people on here for a while, but the University of Texas in Texas is not the same as LSU in La. There are just as many people that don't like UT as root for them. Even in Austin, i bet the % of non UT people is higher than the 5 of non LSU people in La.

LA's not great but it's better than its given credit for.

Miami is god awful obviously.

Chicago and Seattle are 2 other very good sports towns that undeniably have more going on than Austin. Then you've also got places like Washington and Philly. I could go on and on. "Having stuff to do" is not an excuse.

Maybe but not to this extent.

I'm not saying it has to be great, but other than Miami this might be one of the worst sports town in the country.

Texas has a very loyal baseball following. But only when the team is rolling does it approach LSU levels in terms of fan support.

Texas, LSU, and a few other schools in the SEC are the about the only places that give a rat's arse about baseball.
