he did okay at stanford, not as good as montgomery........i was hoping he would work out because it was an excellent hire on paper,

When a school averages 27 wins per year in the 7 years prior to a new coach ariving, then the new coach averages 20 wins per year (only reaching 20 wins once) over the next 4 years i would not call that doing ok. And i never really understood why people loved the hire in the first place. The only reason i could think of is that we were taking a coach from a big name school. There was nothing special on paper about that hire, no matter how many times some of the regulars on this board say it. God bless the hornfrogs and their easter gift to us.

i would hope a d1 coach could find a recruit or two at some point during their time. hickey and job were great finds but the list of failures for trent is way way way longer than success

Yep.

He took a program that won at least 20 games for 10 straight years, all NCAA years including a final four, an elite 8 plus another sweet 16 to not winning 20 games for 3 straight years including a non-NCAA year, then pulling out one very good year and pulling a quasi Stan Heath move on LSU, not to mention having very few recruiting connections in the region where LSU does most of its damage

Shaky hire indeed

he made 3 ncaa's and one nit, never had a losing pac10 conf record. i would call that 'ok.' it's not like i said he did great or really awesome at stanford.

I feel for you. I don't think Trent is as bad as everything, the reaction gets exagerrated because of the loss of talent in-state + Coach Jones making news early with his recruiting.

I do wish he can turn it around at TCU, but I'm not sure if he'll be able to.

I know a guy who played for Brady and Trent and said he'd play for Brady ANY day over TJ

A lot of people are using this thread to hammer Trent Johnson, which is fine, but using his tenure at TCU as a reason to hammer him doesn't make sense considering the hand he was dealt

If there were expectations for TCU basketball coming into the year, and this was the result, it would make sense, but when you have a rotation of 7 guys total and 6 scholarship players playing in the best RPI conference in the country it won't be pretty. Every Big 12 coach in their post game press conference this year has had to point out how rough Trent Johnson is having it this year with roster attrition. 6 guys were sitting on the bench last night vs. Texas wearing polos and sweats and all could have helped in the game, especially the 3 big guys TCU has out with knee injuries. TCU gets out rebounded very badly every game, 56-25 last night.

TCU at 0-13 in league play. Iowa State, Oklahoma State, WVU, Oklahoma, Texas left.

Since winning the SEC in his first season at LSU, Trent Johnson's conference record is.....

We were down to 6 scholarship players last night vs. Texas, at one point we had a 6'1 white walk on having to play center against Texas's 6'11' Cameron Ridley. Only lost by 12.

The team has gotten better. The past 6 or 7 games TCU has been right there until about 10 minutes left in the game where the lack of depth comes in and the team wears out.

One game left, at home vs. Oklahoma... we did beat them last year at home and only lost to them by 8 in Norman earlier this year, and it was a tie game with 2 minutes to go.

Well clearly he just needs time to get his players into the system.
