They had their pick of the two impressive young Rams assistants and chose McCarthy.
MM wasn't my choice at all, but neither was the passing game coordinator or DC at LA. Hiring a Shula is just as much a retread as MM.

If you tired of Mike Tomlin, why the frick would you hire a similar coach that's late in their career. You might as well just keep Mike Tomlin at that point.
They didn’t even get rid of Tomlin. It wasn’t a forced resignation or anything like that. It was all Tomlin’s decision.
Which is additional proof of just how fricking stupid Art Rooney is. His dad and grandfather would be embarrassed at how clueless he is running the Steelers.

It could be worse.
You could have won the Super Bowl and kept Tomlin for 10 more years.

Considering the Steelers history. I really thought they was going to hire a young up-and-comer. I think McCarthy is a good coach, I just question the fit there.

Good lord what a god awful hire. I respect the Rooneys and the org, but their decision making has been suspect for 10+ years now. This is NOT an upgrade from Tomlin.

Zero reason to respect the current Rooney running the franchise.
The Steelers success came entirely through his dad and grandfather. The Steelers haven’t done shite since this a-hole took over in 2017. He masquerades as some elite owner but really he’s Mike Brown with lipstick.

He’ll break the streak of Steeler’s coaches having longevity.
Pretty wild that this is only their 4th coach since the merger.

Steelers feel like just a semi-competent version of late stage Al Davis Raiders at this point. Feel extremely behind the times and have no clue how to navigate the league now.

Good hire. Very high floor for an organization that won’t tolerate tanking.
McCarthy knows what he’s doing. And that’s all Pitt wants. No need to take a chance on an unproven guy.

This might be their Brian Kelly. Good on paper but will break their streak of 3 straight hires who won championships.

Tomlin hasn’t won in like 20 years does he really still count?

I don’t think anyone considers him a great coach, but his results outpace his reputation.
When I hear him speak it reminds me of Les Miles. I'm puzzled by this hire. I thought the re-tread trend had ended in the NFL but not in Pittsburg I guess.
Second chances I get, thirds not so much.

I don’t foresee the Steelers having a winning record next season Well their fans seemed to feel those were burdensome so now they won't have to deal with those problems anymore
Let me put it in a vernacular that you can understand.
Did you like Alabama’s season this year? Imagine repeating that almost every year for a decade and a half. A few good wins, a few head scratching losses, and then an ungodly beat down early in the playoffs. Like Groundhog Day.
At some point, it’ll have you begging for a change, even if it means losing and being in a position for a decent draft pick. This hire will bring more of the same.
